so imagine, people have #demand for #war. these are rallies in Baku, capital of #Azerbaijan, with the demand to start a war, to get control over #Artsakh. They shout “Karabakh” as you can hear, also something, our media translated as “death to Armenians” which is very likely and usual, if even their president declared Armenians of the world their enemies.
enjoy. people can desire war.

So, Samvel Martirosyan writes on telegram, that he spoke with Artsakh military and other gov people, and
a. The probability of new offensive (Azerbaijani, obviously), is extremely high now. b. Because now it is hard for them to be invisible while approaching our positions (we have cameras and drones), the easiest way to bring military to the border is conducting military exercises. And now Azerbaijan is conducting military exercises without a pause, and it looks like those are very expensive. c. The probability of war will be much higher after July 14, when the football championship will be over. Before that starting the war can offend the Russian side. By the same logic, now they almost don’t shoot at the borders. e. The offensive probably will start from the south, so that less people will be affected, to decrease response of international community.

In a separate Facebook post, the blogger reflected on the Karabakh conflict and made an emotional appeal to Armenians.
“I am ashamed of admitting that before I found myself in the Azerbaijani prison I sincerely believed that the Karabakh conflict is a very disputed one and should be resolved on the basis of respect for Azerbaijan’s national borders,” he wrote. “What an idiot I was! Already in 1988 Azerbaijan began [a campaign of] terror against Armenians in [the Azerbaijani city of] Sumgait, Baku and Karabakh.”
“Armenians, hold firm!” he said. “These people want to see you dead full stop. And if you lose Karabakh as a result of negotiations or a weakening of Armenia’s position, be aware that they will come to slaughter you. Just like the Turks did 100 years ago.”

by the way, you don’t get that it is not really fare that palestine gets a lot of attention, but artsakh(nagorno-karabakh) problem does not, and those who managed to not be expelled or killed, are now considered occupants just because they were able to stay alive and not become refugees. if they would become refugees, the international community, and people like you would say that “it’s very sad”, but now, when these people, well some of them, managed to live with dignity already more than 20 years, well, by paying with lives of many, of course, but live where they used to, now some think that this gives them right to tell that “these barbarians are killing each other”, which is actually very imperialistic thinking, but clearly, these people would not live there if not the failure to expell them because of the armenian resistance. and armenia does not get sanctions from the international community, because everybody knows the truth - there would be no single armenian in artsakh, if they would not defend themselves. and yes, if we would not help them.
actually, i really understand the importance of not changing the borders. because that could kindle the war, and many could be killed. so i am the first, seriously, who thinks, that changing the borders even on post soviet space, where those borders were drawn by colonial administration without taking in consideration what’s “fair” but because of their short term political interests, let’s say good relationships of early bolsheviks with turkey, and trading armenian land (i mean the actual republic of armenia, not some historical, virtual land) for the port cities (batumi), so still i think that changing borders is a very bad idea. but! when there is a choice - you don’t change the borders, and people live peacefully, even discriminated, but in peace, then let’s keep borders, bad peace is better than war.
but when people anyway get exterminated, then you don’t have peace anyway. whether you fight, or you die/leave without it. and i mean really exterminated, not like in crimea, where nobody had a danger of being even expelled. (well now tatars and ukrainians have that danger). i am already used to participate discussions why crimea and artsakh cases are absolutely different, but that will be too much for you. anyway this post won’t get much attention.
and yes, this is very important to me and each and every armenian, not because those are armenians, or we dream of an expansion, or “armenia from sea to sea”, there are armenians in georgia, and guess what, they live, well, sometimes get discriminated, but still, nobody exterminates them, and such a surprise, nobody said that armenia occupied parts of georgia, right? while i know, that during the russian-georgian war russia tried to ignite armenian-georgian conflict. i cannot prove that, but military people who knew, told me, - so this is important to each of us not because of imperialism we cannot actually afford, but because anyone has a friend or relative in artsakh. just anyone. when you know someone, you feel their pain, and you can identify with them as well. they always were, and are a part of our society. they were coming to study to armenia, they were working here, and though soviet azerbaijan made everything that there would be no feasible physical connection - for instance no real road from artsakh to armenia, but it was impossible to cut the connections that way. and when you know your friend’s sister or brother is under the fire, it’s very influential, you cannot be indifferent. it does not matter that’s not your sister. that’s too close to not care deeply.
i strongly believe there are cases, when you need to pay, but stay with dignity. let’s say, you are in a country where you can be punished for what you say, no free speech. first they burn your car, then they put you to jail. or you go to the political rally, and they catch you. that does not mean that you don’t have to go to the rally. that means that when you want to live with dignity, it means, you go to the rally, and you know you can end up in jail. that’s what you have to pay. it’s inevitable. otherwise you don’t respect yourself. so to me this is similar. they tried to eliminate the population, first by the help of soviet army, then by themselves. they failed miserably. now they sold a lot of oil and have a lot of military power, got a lot of arms from our “strategic partner and alley” called russia, and the military budget of their country exceeds the whole budget of armenia. we already paid by the years of blockade, huge emigration, stagnating economics. but that’s the price, when you have hostages. and we have hostages there, in artsakh, actually. that’s not a pleasure. nobody feels that we are occupants, we feel that we have people who live under constant threat. and one year ago, during 4-6 days war, that got confirmed. azeri army entered the villages, they could manage to, and killed, cut years, the elderly people who could not leave. the whole rhetoric of their media was along the lines of “armenians run from karabakh, it’s our land”, and after that they want to use all their resources to make us leave artsakh alone, to get control over it by using international community and the law. well that’s very nice. so we do not feel occupants, we feel like someone who has close hostages would feel. i don’t even talk about people who live in other places near the border, not necessarily in artsakh. or actually any of us could go to war at any moment, we know that. we are not happy about that. just it is what it is.

My first thought was curiosity that he chose to go up and over, rather than going around. But then I wondered if I would have noticed him at all if he was just easily slinking underneath the metal fence like it was no big deal. Instead, I watched his entire journey until he was no longer visible on the other side of the wall, just as our hike was ready to depart.

Photo 16: Above Shushi, Artsakh
Four weeks into my stay in Armenia, I took a trip to Artsakh with a rambunctious busload of other diasporans. The entire time, I wished I could ditch the group and just explore on my own time. Learn about a history I had, up until that point, simply not known, much less understood. I wished I had more Armenian under my belt so I could take time to talk with the families we stayed with in Shushi, to listen to their stories, understand their pain, their strength.
The morning of our departure, after three jam-packed days of being bussed from place to place to place and back again, we were given the opportunity to go on an optional hike above Shushi, at 7:30am, with just a few hours sleep under our belts. Only nine of us showed up. And during the two hours that followed, we hiked quietly, nearly too tired to talk, up the hills above Shushi. The hills were rich with scads of fragrant, wild herbs. The rocks dropped off dramatically around each bend, giving way to the valley below. After days of rain, the sky was clear, the air crisp, and we stood on the edge of this valley, just taking it all in. The current moment, beautiful, peaceful, and quiet under a morning sun. But also the layers upon layers of history, trauma, fierce pride, reverence, and unwaivering resolve amongst those we met to do whatever it took to keep calling this breathtaking place home.

Would Israel sell a used drone to a Hitler?
Suppose the Nazis were not murdering Jews but were murdering ‘only’, say, Slavs, Gypsies, and Jehovah’s Witnesses; and suppose our beloved State of Israel were in existence: Would you agree to our selling arms to the Nazis?
Israel is reported to have sold billions of dollars worth of arms, including to governments that are killing or threatening to attack victim peoples. Last week there came reports that an Israeli drone in the hands of Azerbaijan – a huge arms customer of ours – was responsible for the deaths of six Armenians in the enclave Nagorno-Karabakh. And most recently Azeri military transport planes were reported to have landed in Israel (perhaps to pick up and deliver arms) during the war with Armenia.
I am ashamed.
The Armenians were the victims of a major genocide 100 years ago that has even been called the “Armenian Shoah” by some Israeli scholars, including from Bar Ilan University. A great deal of their national and cultural ethos continues to focus passionately on the memory of that genocide (does that sound familiar to us Jews?). For many years now, we Israelis – whether led by Labor or Likud – have insulted and hurt the Armenian people by failing to recognize their genocide officially and formally. Would we ourselves tolerate another government – say the US or England – refusing to recognize the Holocaust because of their realpolitik interest with the perpetrator government?
One senior Armenian official has written several of us in Israel to express his deep pain as well as indignation, not only at our government’s cowardly and self-serving denials of the Armenian Genocide, but also at our thick military trade alliance with the Azeris, a Turkic people who adhere to Turkey’s bizarre and fascist tradition of rewriting history and denying the Armenian Genocide.
I am reminded of the prophet Natan crying out to King David for an earlier though more delectable murderous act of self-interest, or Elijah remonstrating Ahab about his murderous larceny: It’s bad enough that you killed him, are you also taking a profit from the sordid affair? (In the Hebrew: “Haratazachta v’gam yarashta?”)
In general, how willing are we Israelis to strengthen our economy by lucrative arms sales? Of course, “everyone” in the world is doing it, but do we have to also? Have we given up the vision of Israel as a moral leader of peoples on this planet? Is this idea tiresome, naïve, and childlike in a madly destructive and self-destroying world?
An alternative principle could be that we build arms first and foremost for the defense of Israel, and that we supply arms only to underdog peoples who are facing mass destruction and to allies like the US that are essentially committed to shared democratic values and to peace. Of course we will still make some mistakes, but at least our conscience will be more clear that we have not delivered arms to the ‘Nazis.’
To my Armenian colleagues and friends, I can only say that as a Jew and as an Israeli, I am mortified – and angry.

today is a conventional date of the beginning of the 1915’s Armenian genocide in Turkey. Armenians all over the world commemorate the victims. Some of survivors are still alive. Almost all Armenians in the west are ancestors of survivors. Many of us have some relative who survived. My grandfather is also from the family of survivors from Van.
I never liked the date, in particularly, because I felt a link between the date and the victim psychology among the nation. This psychology of the victim was also stimulated and greeted in USSR, as a way to make Armenians more loyal to the empire, and make them sure that they won’t be able to survive without the big brother.
Today is of course, non working day in Armenia, however I came to work, to deal with problems caused by power outage. I was passing through the building and made this photo. This is an A4 b/w print of the We are our mountains monument in Artsakh, and photo of Monte Melkonian, hero of so called NK war. This is what regular radio engineer have printed to hung over it’s table. And though it may seem “militaristic” to hung a photo of a man in uniform, I believe, it’s not really.
(Monte was a very interesting person. when almost all of the Martakert district was lost, and Azerbaidjani army had much more power, he was able to take it back. He had no tanks, but to the end of war he had ~40 tanks under his control, all captured from the Azerbaijani army. He did not tolerate marauding and never allowed that.)
Why is this? Because something have changed. Armenians do not perceive themselves as victims to the such extent as in the past. The important part of an Armenian identity today is that Armenians were able to defend themselves in Artsakh, the population was not eliminated, ethnic cleansings conveyed by Azerbaidjan in late eighties and early nineties failed, at least in most of Artsakh.
They were able to prevent the next genocide. That is why Artsakh is extremely important for any Armenian. That’s a symbol of a victory, probably the most important victory throughout the last ~1000 years.
And what is very sad, that Artsakh has no many chances to be recognized by the International community, and interests of Turkey, which keeps Armenia in blockade, and Azerbaijan, which has oil, are more important to the big players.
It looks like almost any major force is interested to make Artsakh controllable by aggressive, non democratic, militaristic, not tolerant Azerbaijan, which recently again tried to use violence to, as they say, “reestablish territorial integrity”, and in reality, to clean up remaining parts of Artsakh from Armenians. Or, may be make them citizens of the country which conveyed ethnic cleansings, and destroyed every Armenian heritage they were able to.

what I value, and understood recently that it has to be valued, is that not only Artsakh ministry of defence, but also Armenian ministry of defence, publish names of the killed staff. They publish different names.
Armenian ministry of defence does not hide the presence of it’s people in Artsakh.
I did not know this can be an issue, before I saw how Putin’s Russia behave. Russia does not acknowledge it’s military men, when they get catched. Russia shows their wives (or may be those are not real wives) on tv and says - they already left the army. Yesterday.
Like if it is easy to leave army. Like if any one would like to die for Russia, by knowing that his death will never be acknowledged, accepted. They’ve sent him to die, and they reject him at the same time. They won’t bargain for him, in case he will become a captive, but at the same time, they keep captives, or let’s say hostages like Savchenko to bargain benefits for her.

— I do not believe in any peace agreement. I do not trust Azerbaijanis. It was always the same for the last 1000 years. The Armenian government has allocated funding today for the completion of the construction of a strategically important road that would link Armenia and Artsakh. source
Well, that road exists, but it had no asphalt covering last time I’ve been there, and is full with pits, and not very much usable. Road from #Drmbon(western shore of #Sarsang reservoir) to Sotk takes 5 hours, though it’s very short. When I was going to drive by that road for the first time, some told me “don’t go there, you’ll break your car”. That was amazing night, yes, night! And we did it!
Imagine, the Ter-ter river flows at the left side of the road, you can hear it, but you do not see it, and at the right side there is a sheer rock, extremely high. And then there’s rusting remainings of the dead tank. And traces of caterpillars everywhere.
That first time was hard but unforgettable experience.
In USSR they’ve used to put hatches not at side-walks, but in the middle of the streets. They were afraid that in case of war, ruined building might prevent to access the infrastructure. That is why these hatches are hated by careful drivers who tend to avoid these hatches while driving, bypass them. I was never really in to that, but since we’ve passed that Drmbon - Sotk road, I realized that bypassing hatches has no sense at all. At least for me. If we have passed that road, then who cares about street hatches? No, no. Just keep going by your line and ignore them.

Google marks Artsakh IP addresses as Armenian, but Twitter marks them as Azerbaijani
That must be very frustrating, to live in Artsakh and to see twitter greetings in Azerbaijani, specifically when you are struggling for your freedom, and get bombed by Azerbaijani military.
I know the feeling. When I am driving in Artsakh, I tend to not open Google Maps, but use some Open Street Map software.
Because once I open google maps, then this is time to panic! Why there are Azerbaijani/Turkic locality names around? Where am I? Didn’t I get lost? Will they shoot me now? Oh, may be that’s google? But wait, then what this locality name means? Yes, I can read Latin letters, but what this locality name correspond to? Aaaaa… God save me! Please.
But openstreetmap shows a line of contact, shows Armenian locality names, and I see native homy letters. That feels safe. Everything is as it should be.
So, no, nobody can force me to use google maps, instead of OSM. (: No. Not possible. No. (:
#google #twitter #maps #osm #openstreetmap #artsakh #nkpeace #panic #dont_panic
when the openstreetmap editor will show us newer satellite pictures, that’s the time to repaint the contact line, if necessary. and to see the difference. because though authorities cannot be trusted, in these days not everything can be hidden.

there was some political observer, who said: “Azerbaijani military has huge losses, they’ve got their lesson”.
Well, that statement hardly survives critics. Imagine a professional boxer. What if he failed a fight? Will he give up his professional carrier? The purpose of military forces is war. They are designed to, trained and exist for the war. They won’t give up because (even if) they had losses. Moreover if the losses are among soldiers, not the land. Nobody cares about soldiers, of course.
#artsakh #nkpeace
so Aliyev will take stronger positions both in the negotiation process, and inside the country he rules.
He would say, “we were gonna take our land back by force, but the international community asked us to give one more chance to the peaceful resolution. We of course are very peaceful and will let them try one more time.”. Practically he knows that if he had planned the blitz-krieg, to take the whole in a couple of days, then the plan have been failed. However he will pressure the Minks group, to pressure the Armenian side to agree to his demands, because otherwise, he can restart the war. That the previous threats were not just threats, and his patience has limits.
“Meanwhile, dear compatriots, we have to buy more weapons, so you have to live poor lives for some more time, because it’s for the sake of our land, and our territories” - is the message which Azerbaijani population will get.
Similar message has no meaning here - everybody knows, that their brothers and sisters[1] need to be defended.
However, Aliyev would not have this “stronger” positions, if as the result of his latest aggression, he would lost even more land. Then he would be unable to say - we can restart it, because the message they would get - as a result of an aggression we lost more.
Why they did not loose? Because the Armenian side again strived to show that they have no desire and motives to make war, or because the Armenian side simply had no resources to go forward? It’s prepared for the defending war, not the invading war. Or may be both reasons are there.
Armenian side says, that they were able to return all the lost positions before the ceasefire. I hardly believe that. It seems that Azerbaijan managed to take Talish village, came close to Mataghis, then Talish was returned back under Armenian control and Martakert district’s contact line might be indeed restored [2].
So it seems that Armenian side did not loose any populated locality, that would be impossible to hide, but probably have lost space. Well, space is vital for the populated community, that’s where the villagers work. Whatever, when the locality itself is returned, Armenian authorities can safely say that they were able to take back everything they’ve lost[3]. I guess, Artsakh forces have some territorial losses at the southern part non populated areas. Martakert part, northern part is probably indeed taken back, and people can return to repair their houses.
[1] And yes, that is not an ex-aggregation, almost anybody has relatives there. Even during Soviet times though there were no normal road, or connection(probably on purpose), Artsakh people were practically living in the cultural space of the ArmSSR, and contacts were always tight. Huge part of the company I work for, people who are 50 years old and more, are from Artsakh. Their kids are used to go to Artsakh to see their grands. I do not talk about modern times, of course, contacts now are even more tight, Artsakh is isolated, and if during USSR rule, young people who strived for the better education, could go not only to Yerevan, but also go to Baku. Now the world is accessible to them, in direct meaning, only through Armenia, that is the window they have.
[2] Martakert district of NKAO had more space, eastern part of it is under control of Azerbaijan forces, and as it’s visible on the map, they’ve managed to build pretty big populated localities there during these 20 years.
[3] This or that mountain at the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan (not Artsakh, Artsakh is defended much better, as far as I understand) are always exchanged. The border as it pictured on map, the border of Armenian SSR does not correspond to the reality. Reality is, who controls which mountain. I know it from the times I was serving in the army.

15:00 As of noon today, the armed forces of NKR and Azerbaijan have agreed to put a halt to the fighting along the line of Contact given that Minsk Group negotiations are underway in Vienna.
News of the ceasefire was confirmed to Hetq in an interview with NKR Defense Army Spokesman Senor Hasratyan.
14:05 According to Artsakhpress, the aggressive offensive measures taken by Azerbaijan in all directions of the border were relatively passive within the last several hours. With corresponding actions, the Karabakh army suppressed Azerbaijan’s activeness, returning the lost positions.

why it’s not done? probably because we are not able to. probably because of incomparable military power.

why there are no news about shot down Armenian helicopters? I guess probably because Armenian side does not use aviation. I guess that’s because they know helicopters certainly will be shot down quickly. Probably, aviation has some use like support during attacks, and as far as I understand Armenian side are unable to use itt. Which means they have more troubles to take back positions they’ve lost.

Azerbaijan was waiting for this revenge bore than 20 years.
Military and political preparations for the current events have been done during all these years.
Interesting question - why exactly now?
…
That’s simple: only Azerbaijan needs war today. And certainly known why - to return lost in 1994 territories, where now located not recognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Return of the territories, populated by Armenians under the control of Azerbaijan - that is understandable, concrete, never hidden, loudly declared task. Which wasn’t possible to solve 22 years by political means, and now, according to the definition of Karl von Klausevitz, is starting “the continuation of politics by other means”. However that is a politics of Azerbaijan alone, not the “all conflict sides”.
And it’s very much understandable, how this war can be stopped in 20 seconds. By one phone call from Kremlin to Baku, and one simple phrase: “Armenia is our ally”. Nobody in Baku is ready to fight Russia. And they would “go back to the previously prepared positions”. And defer “the continuation of politics by other means” to the better times, which are worser.

I do not like this Russian author, but translated a part of her program:
President of Turkey, Erdogan, also has a right to it’s own “crimea is ours”, especially, when it is necessary to take away attention from the acts of terrorism and put Putin on it’s place. At March 15, after terroristic acts, 2 weeks ago, president of Azerbaijan urgently came to Ankara, to participate high Turkish Azerbaijani strategic council. And 2 weeks later Azerbaijan by using all military means performed an attack by the whole border line with Karabakh. According to the Azerbaijani side version, of course, that were cursed Armenians, who attacked them first. And I have no doubts that Turkey will support Azerbaijani attitude to liberate Azerbaijani “Crimea is ours”. And Putin, who promised to Erdogan different asymmetric responses, will be in difficult position, because asymmetric response was made to us, by using Armenia, the only one our ally, or to be precise, hostage of Russia. Because nowadays Russia has no allies - only hostages.
…
That’s a traditional Turkish answer to the question, what to do in a difficult internal and international situation, since the times of young turks. What to do? Kill Armenians!

also from Waal:
Under this scenario, President Vladimir Putin can then intervene as the real peacemaker between the two sides and demand a peace deal that includes Russian peacekeepers on the ground.
The trouble with this theory is that Russia, although the most important secondary actor in the Karabakh conflict, does not control the situation on the ground. It is not powerful enough to make the Armenian or Azerbaijani military forces do as it wants. They are strongly independent bodies, answerable only to their own presidents. Russia’s ability to shape events is probably smaller than it looks.

The Azerbaijani side has more reason to break the ceasefire. As the losing side in the conflict of the 1990s, when it lost almost one seventh (or about 13.6 percent) of its de jure territory to the Armenians, Baku knows that one of its few tools of pressure on the Armenians is to violate the ceasefire and remind them that the status quo can be shaken.

before my German friend left, we went to the place called “12 tables” to eat spas, amazing Armenian soup made from matsoun. I love it so much that I eat it every day. (:
When we were leaving it was late, the place is already closed. It somehow happened that we got acquainted with the owner (she also works there together with one assistant). She started discussion by noticing Mommintroll on my backpack. It turned out she’s from Artsakh. She said her mother was grown up and educated in Baku, and she does not know Armenian well. She married her father and moved to Martuni. They left it during the war, in 1992. By helicopter which took them to Yerevan. She described how they reached the helicopter in the night. She said “the toilet was in the courtyard, and we could not go to the toilet, because azeris would shoot us.”.
Then they moved to Poland, because they had relatives there. She returned to Yerevan several years ago, she spoke only Polish and Artsakh dialect of Armenian. She learned literate Armenian, the alphabet, and the grammar. She opened one of the best places in Yerevan, cafe-flat, with very tasty dishes. She’s proud she eventually made it completely smoke free.
She does not know if she’ll live here in the future. Because it’s not easy, even if you have business. I hope she will. Her assistant turned out to be a girl from Artsakh who came to study in Yerevan.
Her parents come to Armenia from time to time, but they don’t stay in Yerevan, they go to see their home in Martuni. “In Poland they live in rural area too. They don’t like big cities, many cars and noise” - she explained.

So Putin does not care that Artsakh(NK) Armenians will remain in total isolation from the world. He just needs Armenia to sign Eurasian-Union agreement at any price.
the preliminary treaty states that the customs checkpoints will be created in Kashatagh, Lachin, and other roads going to Karabakh. Imported products from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia with have relatively high tariffs, in accordance to the Eurasian Economic Union. According to the circulating news, Armenia plans to sign this treaty on October 10, and will go into effect on January 1(2015)

System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian has addressed the recent tensions along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border
“Until there is a lasting peace agreement on Nagorno-Karabagh, both Armenia and Azerbaijan will be both militarily and financially constrained and fall deeper into corruptive political practices subservient to one superpower or another. Karabagh, called Artsakh in Armenian, has been an enclave with a majority population of Armenians given to Azerbaijan by Stalin.
“I’ve been to Artsakh on a visit to Armenia years ago and have to say that the people living there are gracious, generous, kind and deserve peace and prosperity as we all do,” reads his post.

As Conflict Escalates, Dictator Ilham Aliyev Needs to Be Stopped
While Syria burns, Gaza explodes and al Qaeda captures another Iraqi town, another full-blown conflict threatens to further destabilize the Middle East, this one between Armenia and Azerbaijan. For months now, Ilham Aliyev, one of the worst dictators alive, has been indiscriminately shelling the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, a formerly Soviet Socialist Oblast located within Soviet Azeri territory populated by ethnic Armenians.

These attacks are more likely to come from the Azerbaijani side, which has rejected international initiatives to stabilize the ceasefire by removing snipers from the front-line. so, what do I think about it, why after 20 smth years, Azerbaijan military makes much more attacks now?
Because of two possible reasons, IMHO.
a) As you may remember, Russia forced Armenia to refuse joining EU agreement, and join Eurasion Union. Armenia cut it’s connections with EU by demand of Putin. Then, Eurasian Union did not sign the paper with Armenia (how lucky we are) because they demand to put customs between Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
BTW, Armenia and NK have the same economic space, and joined World Trade Organization without problems. Why? Because NK has no other connection to the world, it’s in blockade. Actually, Armenia is also blocked by Azerbaijan and Turkey, but we still have Georgia and Iran. WTO asked Azerbaijan, if they agree to shut down NK blockade, then Armenia can join WTO without NK. Azerbaijan refused. But now Putin and Nazarbayev, the dictator club, demand us to leave this people in blockade. (: Our puppet president cannot agree, he has no support in the country, and it’s impossible to leave NK people blocked even by us. They hardly survive even now.
However, Putin does not care. He needs Armenia to sign the papers, whatever it takes. If we need to make customs on the Armenia-NK border, then we have to obey. If we don’t obey, he asks his friend, another dictator, who puts all his oil money into buying weapons (also from Russia) to heat the temperature at the Contact Line, and disrespect the ceasefire which lasted more than 20 years.
b) Putin needs to have his army to control NK. Thus he will control the territory, and can manipulate Armenia and Azerbaijan even more. In this case Azerbaijan, because he got everything he wanted from Armenia. Almost everything, we did not change the language law, did not obey and add Russian as the state language in Armenia. That’s in every paper Russia suggested within OSCE Minks group, that they need to put their “peacekeepers” in NK. When they control the territory, they can manipulate Azerbaijan to join Eurasian Union, by trading lives of Armenians living in NK. Also, they need to have military bases in Azerbaijan, and Aliyev-father promised it to Russia, and refused to do that later. So this is a way they can get what they want.
Thus Putin needs manipulate Aliyev to restart the war, to make war happen, then put “peacekeepers” and control the NK, thus three coutries in the region.

That’s a very badly made film, but it’s still more than nothing. This is very important topic for me, for us.
NK(Artsakh) people is a nation which struggles for freedom, and has not less rights for freedom than let’s say Palestine. Nevertheless most of you don’t know about it’s existence. (:
Almost 100 years after Armenian genocide in Turkey, these people decided to not be victims, but defend themselves. And they succeeded. Which is unbelievable. But they don’t have recognition, instead, often Armenian side condemned. Surely, war is not a pleasurable time. But Azerbaijan started the war by ethnic cleansing of Armenian population - no Armenians, no problem. They failed, the brute force did not allow them to get rid of Armenians. Nobody were defending them. But small weak nation was able to win in a war against a big and rich country. Now Azerbaijan has hopes to return the “land” they need (not the people) by the help of diplomacy and oil. I live, may be, in the most militarized region in the world. Russia sells weapons to Azerbaijan, making billions of dollars per year.

Happy Independence day, #Armenia. 22 years ago 99% of Armenia population voted for free, independent, democratic Republic of Armenia.
It is dangerous time for our freedom now. Putin is forcing us to join his new #Russian-Empire, which is called #Eurasian-Union - one whole country with one army, ruled from #Moscow. But let’s remember, that history does not end here. Empires are going to collapse, sooner or later. We survived so many empires throughout our history, let’s fight this empire too, we are not going to surrender..

On 11 June 1993, Mountainous Karabakh started to issue own postage stamps. In English the name of country is given mostly as MOUNTAINOUS KARABAKH, only sometimes as NAGORNO-KARABAKH. The most common shortform is NKR (for Nagorno Karabakh Republic). However, caused by its unsettled status, NKR cannot become a member of UPU. Nevertheless, in present-day NKR it is not possible to use postage stamps of Azerbaijan.
The common languages on postage stamps of Mountainous (Nagorno) Karabakh are Armenian (Armenian writing) and English (Latin writing).

ես հատուկ ուզում էի Վանք մտնել այս պատը լուսանկարելու համար։ Պատին փակցված են ադրբեջանական բանակի մեքենաների համարները։
I went to Vank because I wanted to photograph this wall. It is covered with the numbers of the Azerbaijani military cars.
In short, deportation and ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh failed, and resulted in war, and later, creation of de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh).
