i have learned an interesting way of developing b/w film.

first of all, you don’t need to buy a developer, like d76 or rodinal. you can make a better developer yourself. (:

for that you need: solution number zero:

  • Sodium sulfate, 100 gr. (btw, in English “Natrium”, which is “Natrium” in German, Russian and Armenian is called Sodium fore some reason!)
  • Metol, 5 gr.

Dilute this in one litre of water.

solution number one:

  • Borax, 10 gr in 1 litre of water.

Keep the film for 7 minutes in the first solution, then 7 minutes in the second solution. if you feel you need more details in shadows, then keep up to 15 minutes for the second time.

what is important, and what distinguishes this process, from d76 is that you never can “spoil” the negative. whatever ISO is it, however long you keep the film in the fluids, it will “expose” what is on the film, but it won’t go beyond that. I even got to know how does that work chemically, but i cannot explain that myself.

this solution is also known as Kodak D23, or “hungry development”.

By the way, you don’t need to buy a “Stop bath” solution as well. Just get %5 solution of Acetic Acid and dilute it in one litre of water. That’s your stop bath. (:

For instance, this one works very well:

tafelessig

Also, it is possible to get a fixer from the med lab, which works with x-rays processing, but i haven’t learnt that yet. (:

I am used to go to Aragats or Sevan to watch, or even catch on camera a falling star during the nights when Earth meets Perseids. However it’s not necessary to wait for perseids or leonids: when you are tired from work, you still may try to catch a star with your camera phone. For instance an animated star when bookmarking a page. I’ve got it at the first try. (: Can you?

my friend, from Artsakh writes:

I’m a school teacher in Karvachar, a small town heavily destroyed by war. For me it’s very important to make this place better for youth, to create place where they can spend their free time with benefits for themselves. And also - that will be the place where people can read and discuss their favorite books.

please contribute. it’s important.

in the wake of this post and comments.

i accept that free software is often far behind it’s proprietary analogues. we, the society must learn to not take it for granted.

we must pay to the creators to support their work. we must hire developers around us to contribute our desired patches. we must set up bounties for necessary features.

thus we will encourage development of free software.

because free doesn’t mean free-ware, it’s not as free beer but as free speech.

software requires investments like tree requires water.

The way they write functional programs for decidedly non-functional problems is through a trick called a monad, which I will not explain and nobody understands anyway, but the point is, in the hands of a very clever programmer, functional programming “can” be used in many more places than you would naively expect.

And that is really the problem. It works at first and then it keeps working until suddenly it doesn’t. And this communism functionalism spreads ideologically until your country codebase is saddled with debt and nobody can bail you out because you have a lot of monads and nobody can understand them.
