C++ is a horrible language. It’s made more horrible by the fact that a lot of substandard programmers use it, to the point where it’s much much easier to generate total and utter crap with it. Quite frankly, even if the choice of C were to do nothing but keep the C++ programmers out, that in itself would be a huge reason to use C.

Linus says, he bought a PC after VIC-20 and Sinclair, in order to not write software he needs himself, but to work on a supported platform which has a community, therefore to be able to buy software written by others, and then he learnt about Unix, and wanted to run Unix at home, he said - “How hard could it be?”, and it turned out he could not, because it was “expensive as hell” and targeted and marketed for banks.
