Tears of rage.
I had not visited Cinthia and Peter for a while. The day was sunny and they looked older, as if we hadn´t met for years, as if their faces were disappearing, getting away. They didn´t say a word about what happened to them. Maybe they were more silent. Maybe Peter smiled at me in a way more sweet. But I noticed that something was going wrong. They were doing so good lately! The farm was very clean and they were being taken care of by someone, a highly recommended nurse. But the other day I found their house all messy. Cinthia looked unkempt and one of the dogs is very sick and doesn´t move. I asked a neighbor who lives nearby, a true angel who watches them. She told me that she got a call from a worker of the bank office. He was worried. The nurse who was taking care of the old brother and her sister was driving Peter to the bank very often lately. Too much, he said. Peter signed papers, money was removed from the account every time. Peter will turn 90 years old in March and he is the youngest brother. This supposed nurse took advantage of a very old man´s trust and age. The neighbor checked everything and kicked her out. And now they are all alone and uncared of.
Tears of gratitude.
Knowing about what happened to them broke my heart a little bit, I guess. I couldn´t understand who is able to do something so mean! After the neighbor told me, I stayed in the farm a bit longer. Cinthia got a plate of old rice from the freezer and warmed it up. She also cut a few slices of chicken while Peter was getting the grill ready. I looked at them, they were so beautiful! There’s no one in this world, no thing in this world, that can change them now. There´s not a betrayal able to disturb a long life of kindness and trust in its end. The peace of their faces was a revelation suddenly, shining as an everlasting sunny day.
