JC-CFN-View v0.1
                          (c) John Charles, 1993
                        Compiled in GFA Basic v3.5

A viewer for Calamus CFN fonts which needs an ST running
in high resolution, or with a mono emulator.
At the moment all fonts are shown in outline only but I
find this sufficient to be able to see whether a font
has been constructed well and whether it contains all
         the characters I want.

The files JCCFNV01.PRG and JCCFNVUE.TXT constitute a PD
package which may be copied freely, given away, held on
BBS and in PD libraries and distributed for nominal care
and copying fees. The program and text file remain my
copyright and should not be altered in any way. They may
not be distributed on magazine cover disks without first
         obtaining my written permission.

I give no warranties either expressed or implied that
this program will run on your hardware or that it will
do everything you wish. You use it entirely at your own
risk. This having been said I have taken care that it
works perfectly on all the harware I have and with a
         variety of software setups.

Using the program is very simple - just double click on
the program and the main working screen will be
presented. You will see details of a PD font which is
         built in to the program.

At the bottom of the screen are various options.

ABCD... click here to see all the capital letters

abcd... here to see the lower case letters

123.œ$% here to see the numerals and most punctuation
á°® ..? and here for other characters which may be
                  available.

Clicking one of the above and seeing nothing means that
no characters were available for that section.

LOAD presents a file selector so you can load a .CFN
              font file

QUIT when you have had enough!

Most PD fonts should load and display without problems.
I have tried it out on over 100 different CFN files.

I have found the rare one which will crash the program -
in these cases they crash everything I've tried to load
them in to so they are most probably corrupted files!

Some will give an alert to say they use encryption and
so far I have not found the right method for displaying
         them. (next version I hope!)

A few may show grossly mis-shaped letters (one line will
shoot across the screen). In these cases there is a
mistake in the font file and these fonts cause Calamus
to crash if those letters are used. Usually they can be
put right using one of the many Calamus font editors.

         THANKS
My thanks to Chris McArian for releasing a description
of most of the data in Calamus font files and to Han
Kemen for releasing 'Your Second GFA-BASIC 3.0 Manual'
(commonly known as GFA Expert) without which I would
never have known about GFAs curve drawing abilities!

         Happy Viewing >> JayCee << January 1993

Any feedback is very welcome and will be acknowledged.
Any added data on encrypted .CFN font data will be well
         received.
