>>> STrip <<< Copyright (c) 1993 by Lars Kupferschl„ger The first terminal program for the Atari ST series of computers that supports the Remote-Imaging-Protocol (RIP) INTRODUCTION This is only a temporary documentation which has been written at short notice for the release of STrip v0.95. It doesn't claim to be complete but should answer the basic and most important questions. STrip is the first terminal program for the Atari ST which supports the Remote-Imaging-Protocol (RIP). RIP has been developed by TeleGraphics, a USA Company and is a 7-bit ASCII transfer protocol for color graphics, mouse control and more. RIP requires a graphics resolution of 640 * 350 pixels in 16 colors, which is provided by an IBM compatible PC with EGA compatible graphics card. The monochrome mode of the Atari ST offers an appropriate resolution(640 * 400 pixels min.) but only two colors, namely black and white. This means that a 100% implementation of RIP isn't possible on the ST because the necessary hardware requirements are not available. From the software developer's point of view, this lack is the special challenge of implementing RIP on the ST: To represent RIP codes as good as possible on a black-and-white plane. Those who have dealt with this problems a little bit closer will have recognized that this isn't an easy task and should not be underestimated. With "STrip" I have developed an application which achieves very good results on this matter. But because of the technical reasons cited above it can't come up to the standard of a real color implementation. To date, this version of STrip v0.95 supports appr. 90% of all RIP functions. Of course, STrip will be expanded further and adapted to the developing standard. 2 Hardware requirements STrip has been designed for the monochrome resolution of the Atari ST (640*400 pixels). A higher monochrome resolution could not be tested but should be possible. Color graphics cards or the two color modes of the Atari ST are currently not supported. 3 License information STrip is SHAREWARE. Copyright (c) 1993 Lars Kupferschl„ger. All rights reserved. The Shareware concept means that STrip may be distributed free of charge, but only in its original and unmodified form. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or derive a work based on this work in whole or in part. Any alteration of these program files is a violation of applicable laws. After an evaluation period of 14 days you either have to register or to delete STrip. Registered users will get full access to all functions of STrip, free updates (excluding postage and disks), the ZMODEM modules for up- and downloads, an icon converter which will convert the original RIP icons (16 colors, *.ICN) to STrip icons (b/w, *.SIC) and all available icons. The registration fee: - students, pensioners, unemployed or similar in Germany and Europe: 30 DM in the USA and elsewhere: 30 US$ - working people in Germany and Europe: 50 DM in the USA and elsewhere: 50 US$ To register, fill out the registration form REGISTER.GER/REGISTER.ENG (additionally, you can find it at the end of this documentation) and send it back to me (see Contact Adress). 4 Installation There is no special installation of STrip necessary. The archive should have been extracted with all subdirectories in order to find all icon files (*.SIC) in the subdirectory "ICONS". Alternatively, you may create a subdirectory "ICONS" on your own and move all icon files to this directory. 5 The dial directory (File DIAL095.LST) The file DIAL095.LST contains a directory of BBS phone numbers which can be dialled from within STrip using the Dial function. Each line consists of an entry of the following format: | Examples: Solaris|011-49-241-156071 Solaris (2400 baud)|011-49-241-158031 Neither the BBS name nor its phone number should exceed 30 characters and the last line should have an End_Of_Line mark (CR/LF) too. In case of doubt, just leave the last line empty. 6 Contact address If you have any questions regarding STrip you may contact me at one of the following addresses: Lars Kupferschl„ger Wolfsgasse 15 52499 Baesweiler Germany Internet: lars_kupferschlaeger@solaris.oche.de 7 Registration form STrip Registration Form ======================= I want to become a registered STrip user. I will get full access to all functions of STrip, free updates (except postage and disks), the ZMODEM modules for up- and downloads, an icon converter which will convert the original icons (16 colors, *.ICN) to STrip icons (b/w, *.SIC) and all available icons.
