THRUST DUEL v1.2 - 1 Meg Version ································ (c)1993 Paul Hamilton / Spanner in the Works What is it? ----------- Thrust Duel is a two-player space dogfight game. Each player controls a little triangular spaceship which can rotate, thrust, shield itself and fire much like the little triangular spaceships in Asteroids(TM), Thrust(TM) and all the other little triangular spaceship games. The aim of the game is to be the first to score 25 points. You get a point when: (a) your bullet kills the flying saucer, and (b) when the other player dies for any reason. The ground is very dangerous: you can only hit it safely when your ship is facing straight up, and moving slowly. Your shield will not protect you from crashing on the ground. It will, however protect you from anything else (bullets/aliens/the other player). If you hit the other player when you're both shielded, you bounce off... this leads to some very nasty tactics! About the program ----------------- Thrust Duel was written in AMOS Pro. The graphics were either drawn using DPaint IV AGA or raytraced using Persistance of Vision. Music was written in Protracker (a cover version of Ultra Vivid Scene's Mercy Seat). Samples were nicked from ST00-ST10 disks. The program was then converted to run in AMOS 1.3, so I could compile it. I wrote the game on an A4000/030, and didn't realise something was amiss until I playtested it on my A500. It really is sloooooooow. After a bit of getting used to it, it doesn't seem so bad, but I apologise for the shoddiness of my programming - there really is no excuse for such a simple game running into speed problems. Free Bonus Gift --------------- Also on this disk are some HAM-8 pictures I've produced using the excellent PD ray tracer, Persistance of Vision. They are located in the AGA_Pics drawer of this disk, and you'll need to load them into an AGA paint or display program to view them - I couldn't find a PD picture viewing utility that accepts AGA graphics, sorry. Heavy Breadhead Stuff (oh, man...) ---------------------------------- This game is MonitorWare. I am a 20 year old part-time student hoping to study Computer Animation at university someday, and I'm desperately strapped for cash. If you enjoy playing the game, and feel it's worth it, please please please do the honest thing and send me a quid. I've spent the last few years straining to read a clapped-out old tv screen, and really would like to buy a monitor so I can see what I'm doing. If the response is good, I might even do an updated version of the game including all the stuff I wanted to (like recoil from the bullets, intelligent aliens who fire back, an options screen, one player mode vs the computer, bigger explosions, etc). Thanks ------ A great big shiny thank you to Rick Wheeler, Darrel Manuel and Simon Litton for their help. A tip o' the hat to Jeff Minter, for hanging on in there and coming up with the goods despite all the megabuck commercial pressures and hassles of the computer industry. Legal stuff ----------- The game ("Thrust Duel v1.2"), its code, graphics and music are all (c)1993 Paul Hamilton / Spanner in the Works. This disk may be freely copied and redistributed provided that: (a) this .doc file is included, unchanged (b) the program itself is not altered in any way (c) no charge is made for the game other than a nominal disk copying fee. I would also prefer it if the pictures were included on the disk, as there is precious little AGA stuff available and every new bit helps.
