INTRODUCTION LASR_MAN prints ÿASCII text files on a laser or ink jet printer in any of thirty-six ÿdifferent ÿstyles. ÿÿThey ÿinclude ÿthe ÿnormal ÿportrait ÿor landscape orientation with either 10, ÿ12, ÿ17, 23 ÿor 33 ÿcharacters per inch (cpi), ÿlandscape with two pages per side (pps) ÿat 17 ÿcpi or eight pps at 33 cpi, and portrait with four pps at 23 cpi. Each of these styles may ÿuse ÿmultiple ÿpasses, ÿprinting on both sides of each sheet. ÿÿThis allows up to sixteen pages of sixty ÿlines each to be printed on a single sheet ÿof ÿletter ÿsize paper. ÿConfiguration data is included ÿto ÿallow printing on A4 and legal size paper. In addition, the program has the ability to print individual files, ÿeach in the form of a booklet, or a group of files may be printed together, as chapters of a book, in the form of a manual with two, four or eight pages per side. Each book page will contain one, two or four text pages. Other ÿoptions ÿinclude selection of only files that have ÿbeen ÿchanged, page ÿÿtitles, ÿÿsubstitution ÿof ÿspaces ÿfor ÿtabs, ÿÿbinding ÿmargins, underlining, ÿcovers, ÿa half-tone "rubber stamp", ÿprint font selection, and a variety of option switches. Options may be specified as an environment variable, on the command line, in ÿan ÿoption file or ÿby menu selection while the program ÿis ÿrunning. Files to be printed may be selected in the same manner. LASR_MAN ÿprints only unformatted ASCII files. ÿIf you use it to print ÿa .COM file or a document stored in coded form by a word processor such ÿas WordPerfect, the output will look strange. The only control characters that ÿare passed to the printer are ÿcarriage return (13), ÿline feed (10) and form feed (12). The tab character (9) is converted to spaces. All other control characters (0-31) ÿare replaced by a 'þ'. Valid characters (32-255) are printed 'as-is'. For example, ÿif a text file has 66 ÿlines per page without any form feed characters ÿand ÿthe selected style of output prints 72 ÿlines per ÿpage, setting the ÿLINES PER PAGE LIMIT to 66 ÿwill result in ÿproperly printed pagination.
