CHANGE DATA PATH This ÿoption will set the drive and directory, ÿfrom which files may then be selected for processing.  The DRIVE MENU displays all valid drives, "A" thru LASTDRIVE, ÿas defined by CONFIG.SYS. Those ÿdrives ÿthat are CAPITALIZED are currently available, ÿÿwhile ÿthe lower case drives are not. The current DRIVE is highlighted. Í>To select the DATA PATH DRIVE, press its highlighted letter or move the highlight bar to it and press [Ù]. The ÿSUBDIRECTORY PICK LIST displays the available subdirectories of ÿthe currently defined drive/directory DATA PATH. The "accept path" option will accept the DATA PATH as currently displayed to the right of the DIRECTORY DATA PATH option. The ". [root dir]" option (if shown) will reset the DATA PATH to the root directory of the current drive. The ÿ".. ÿ[parent]" ÿoption (if shown) ÿwill remove the last subdirectory that was added to the DATA PATH. Pressing ÿ[highlight ÿletter] will move the highlight bar to ÿthe ÿfirst subdirectory whose name starts with that letter. Í>To select ÿone of these options or to add another subdirectory ÿto ÿthe DATA PATH, move the highlight bar to the desired item and press [Ù].  FILE SELECT When the FILES SELECT option is selected, ÿa ÿPICK LIST of files from the selected drive/directory is displayed. ÿAll files (up to 75 ÿÿper display screen) on the current drive-directory are displayed in the PICK LIST. CHANGE MENU COLORS MENU The ÿCHANGE ÿMENU ÿCOLORS MENU options include the eight ÿTYPES ÿOF ÿMENU windows used by VIEW_MAN and a default colors reset. Í>To reset all of the menu colors to the original defaults, press [D]. Í>To ÿchange ÿthe ÿcolors of a MENU TYPE window, ÿpress ÿits ÿhighlighted letter or move the highlight bar to it and press [Ù]. A ÿsample menu window with the current colors is displayed. ÿThis ÿsample will show how the menu will appear as the colors are changed. Í>To ÿchange ÿthe BACKGROUND COLORS, ÿuse the [UP] and [DOWN] arrow keys. There are sixteen background colors. Í>To change the FOREGROUND COLORS, use the [LEFT] and [RIGHT] arrow keys. There are sixteen foreground colors. Í>To accept the menu color change, ÿpress [Ù]. The display will then ÿbe refreshed to show the changed colors.  EDIT PRINT The ÿTRANSPARENT ÿPRINT ÿDATA ÿCONTROL STRINGS allow ÿprinting ÿof ÿASCII control characters (0-32) by printer that support this feature. VIEW_MAN, as ÿnormally distributed, will print the control characters with Hewlett- Packard ÿDeskJet/LaserJet ÿprinters or compatibles. ÿThe START string ÿis "[ESC]&p1X" and the END string is null. ÿIf your printer does not support this ÿcontrol ÿcode, ÿcheck your printer manual and replace ÿit ÿwith the appropriate code(s). Í>To change the START CODE, ÿedit the CONTROL STRING displayed as desired using the action keys shown on the bottom help line. Í>To cancel the changes made, press [ESCAPE]. Í>To accept the CONTROL STRING as edited, press [Ù]. The END CODE CONTROL STRING can then be edited in a similar manner. PRINT CONTROL CHARACTERS Control ÿcharacters ÿ(ASCII 0-31) ÿare usually used for ÿprinter ÿcontrol functions and not printed. ÿHowever, many printers allow printing control characters ÿwhen ÿthey ÿare ÿpreceded and followed ÿby ÿspecific ÿcontrol character strings. ÿVIEW_MAN has these strings defined in the OPTION file for the ÿHP ÿLaserJet printers. ÿThese strings may ÿbe ÿedited ÿfor other printers, by use of the SETUP function. PRINT FULL OR SELECTED BLOCK The full file, or a selected block, is printed in a format similar to the display ÿformat, ÿÿwith ÿsixteen characters in both Hex and ASCII on each line. There is a three line header with file and print information, and a blank ÿline is inserted after every tenth data line. ÿNo pagination (form feeds) are included. An ÿaction ÿmessage ÿis displayed during printing showing ÿthe ÿcharacter position printed/last character position to print. Í>To terminate printing at any time, press [ESCAPE]. After printing is complete, ÿan informational message is displayed. Press any key to continue.  DISK FILE EXISTS ...? PRINT SELECT A printing range data entry window is displayed, to allow definition of a block of the selected file to print. Í>To ÿcancel ÿthis ÿprint option at any time during ÿdata ÿentry, ÿÿpress [ESCAPE]. Edit the first file position to print (the first character in the file is at position 0) ÿusing the action keys shown on the bottom help line. When complete, press [Ù]. Next, ÿedit the last file position to print. ÿWhen complete, ÿpress [Ù]. The selected file block will be printed. DEFINE MACRO AND ITS USE VIEW_MAN ÿhas ÿthe ability to record keystrokes as they are ÿentered ÿand then "play" ÿthem back on demand. ÿThis MACRO capability can handle up to 200 ÿcharacters. ÿIt is especially useful when the same changes are being made to a series of files. Í>úTo start defining a MACRO, ÿpress [ALT]+[D]. The letters 'MD' ÿwill be displayed ÿin ÿthe upper right corner and an informational ÿmessage ÿwill also be displayed. Now press the desired sequence of keys. Each key press will cause a beep, signifying the recording of the MACRO. Í>úTo end the MACRO definition, ÿpress [ALT]+[D] again. ÿÿThe upper right letters ÿwill change to 'Mû', ÿto signify the MACRO is recorded and ready to run, and an informational message will be displayed. Í>úTo run the MACRO, ÿpress [ALT]+[D]. ÿThe recorded keys are played back in ÿthe same order as they were originally entered. ÿThere is no ÿmessage displayed.
