Changing the default setting of this program (which is 300 baud) should not be necessary unless your modem does not support this rate. Since TMC only uses the baud rate in initializing the modem for dialing phone numbers and does not transfer any data. The rate used is not important as long as your modem supports the selected baud rate. Modem COM Port Your modems COM port is the communications port which your modem uses. It is normally determined by switch settings on the modem itself. If possible, set up your modem to use either COM1 or COM2 since COM3 & COM4 are not always supported by other programs. Note: changing your modem to a different COM port may cause conflicts with other devices which also use the communication ports. Consult your manuals for more info. Modem Data Word The format of the data word in this program is used for initializing the modem and is not important unless your modem does not support the format selected. If you have problems with the phone dialer check your modem manual and select a format that your modem supports. Note: see also Baud Rate, COM Port, Dial string and Hangup string. Modem Dial String The Modem dial string and the Modem Hangup string are used by your modem as their names imply for setting up to dial a phone number and hanging up (disconnecting the modem from the line). These string of characters are part of the AT command set. Each group of characters specifies a function to be preformed, such as deter- mining if pulse or tone dialing is used. See your modem manual for more details. Modem Hangup String The Modem dial string and the Modem Hangup string are used by your modem as their names imply for setting up to dial a phone number and hanging up (disconnecting the modem from the line). These string of characters are part of the AT command set. Each group of characters specifies a function to be preformed, such as deter- mining if pulse or tone dialing is used. See your modem manual for more details. Printer Port You must select the Printer port which your printer is connected with to be able to print data from this program. Most likely your printer is connected to LPT1. See your DOS manual and your printer manual for more information on printer ports. Printer Type There are two printer types specified by this program: Generic and Compatible. By selecting Generic this program should work with all types, brands and models of printers. The Compatible type will work with most printers that use the same compatible standards used by this program and should print better. The list of printer types will be expanded in future versions of this program. Screen Saver The screen saver can be set to blank the screen whenever a key is not pressed for a time adjustable from 1-20 minutes. Setting the screen saver to 0 disables it. The screen can also be immediately blanked by pressing when not in an edit mode or using a menu. To unblank the screen just press any key. Using the screen saver helps prevent image "burn in". Sound On/Off Program sound can be turned off or on by selecting this item. This program uses sound mainly to warn the user of an incorrect key stroke. Note: there are a few computer systems which do not have an internal speaker and with these systems the sound should be turned off. Set Sys Date/Time With this option you can set your computers internal time and date. Just type in the correct time and/or date in the format shown and press , or to cancel. Tab Set The number of spaces that the Tab key moves the cursor in one of the edit modes is determined by the Tab Set. Any number of spaces can be selected between 1 and 20. This is helpful when indenting lines of text or other traditional uses of the tab key on a typewriter. About Set Up Set Up is a program used to determine certain properties of TMC Calendar & Phone Book (such as screen colors). The value of these properties are stored in a file called CALSETUP.INI. TMC uses the information from this file to set itself up as the user specified. If this file ever gets corrupted, just delete it and TMC or Set Up will create a new one with the default values. **************END****END*************** TMC Calendar & Phone Book Version 2.0sc Online Help File for SETUP.EXE ***************END OF FILE***************
