N O N L I N Nonlinear Statistical Regression Analysis Program Copyright (c) 1992, 1993 Phillip H. Sherrod Member, Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP) Nonlin performs statistical regression analysis to estimate the values of parameters for linear, multivariate, polynomial, and general nonlinear functions. The regression analysis determines the values of the parameters which cause the function to best fit the observed data that you provide. You specify the form of the function whose parameters are being estimated using ordinary algebraic notation. In addition to determining the parameter estimates, Nonlin can be directed to generate an output file with predicted values and residuals. It can also plot the data observations and the computed function. Although designed for regression analysis, Nonlin can also be used to find the root (zero point) or minimum absolute value of a nonlinear expression. Nonlin is in use at many engineering and research centers around the world. SUMMARY OF MAIN FEATURES . Fits general equation to data values. . Form of equation is specified using normal algebraic notation. . A library of built-in function is included for use in specifying the equation. The built-in functions include trig, exponential, log, Bessel, elliptic integrals, and many others. . Nonlin handles multivariate functions; up to 12 parameter values may be estimated. . A "SWEEP" command allows you to specify a range of starting values in case the function has both local and global minimums. . Student's `t' statistic and associated probability is computed for each estimated parameter providing an estimate of the significance of the value. . Confidence intervals can be computed. . Other statistics are computed including `F', coefficient of multiple determination, and Durbin-Watson. . The data and fitted equation can be plotted in high resolution on the console or a HP LaserJet printer. . Nonlin can be used to find the root, or point of minimum absolute value, of a nonlinear function. . Nonlin uses a state-of-the-art "adaptive" nonlinear minimization algorithm that is as good, or better, than you are likely to find in even the most expensive nonlinear regression packages. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Nonlin will run on any IBM PC compatible computer under MS-DOS version 3.0 or higher. A minimum of 500K of free RAM is necessary (less if LaserJet plotting is not performed). The program does not need a numeric coprocessor but will use it if available. A coprocessor is highly recommended for large analyses. ================================================================= Software Order Form ================================================================= Name ______________________________________________________ Address ___________________________________________________ City _______________________ State _______ Zip ___________ Telephone _________________________________________________ CompuServe account (optional) _____________________________ Nonlin version ____________________________________________ Bulletin board where you found Nonlin _____________________ Comments __________________________________________________ Check the box below which indicates your order type: ___ I wish to register Nonlin ($25). ___ I wish to order Mathplot ($20). ___ I wish to register Nonlin and order Mathplot ($40).
