         The following changes were made to create version 5.40:

         1. Increased user memory by using expanded memory from the
         assembly language program.  This also increased the size of the
         ff.exe file from 98K to about 132K.  It freed about 1.5K more
         for user memory.  But more importantly it allowed practically
         an unlimited amount of memory for screen help menus.

         2. Several new help screens were added and the main menu was
         made more descriptive.

         3. Added default reports when new file are created.  The reports
         use field 1 to the field number that will produce a report with
         79 columns or less.

         4. Put in a ROSTER report for programs using the GradeBook
         feature.  The format of this report is:

           Field3   Field 1 (L Name)    __|__|__|__|__|__|__|__|__|__|_

         5.  Removed disk overlay used by fastfile.  The F.FF file is no
         longer created or used.  This frees about 10K of disk space.

         6. Put in ability to change directory, active disk drive,
         and/or save the current file from the Load New file Menu.

         7. Made it easier to exit to DOS.  If you changes were made to
         the active file without saving to disk.  Fastfile will ask if
         you wish to abandon the changes before exit to DOS.

         8. Allowed using the delimiter zero [0] to signal disk output
         to ignore delimiters.  This allows the user to transfer
         FASTFILE reports using E-Mail as disk files.  You may still
         select any other terminator for using disk output with other
         programs like your favorite word processor.

         9. Made the process of creating a new file design easier by
         allowing edit of field specifications within the create new
         file option.  Before you had to complete the file design before
         edit was possible.  In addition you can see the location of new
         fields on the screen as they added.

         10. Made process of creating a new report design easier by
         displaying the field name and tab advance in their printing
         positions on the screen.:

         11. Added global search and report feature.  To invoke this
         feature the file name must start with two digits.  For
         example 90CHECKS, 91CHECKS, 92CHECKS.  If 90CHECKS is loaded
         and all three files are in the current directory, FASTFILE
         automatically ask to search/report 91CHECKS and 92CHECKS when
         a request for record search is made (in edit and report modes).

         12. Added ability to change print character size (10,12, and 17
         char/inch) for several printers.  Other printers will be added
         as information on them is obtained.

         13 26Apr93 - Problem with automatic math calculation corrected.
         problem occured when a single (or odd number of) negative sign
         appeared with decimal multiplication.

         14. Corrected problem using numeric keypad during edit of numbers.

         15.  V 5.43--- Eliminated the Selection Menu from appearing when
         loading shareware version of FASTFILE.  Eliminated 4 application
         programs from shareware version and made corresponding changes
         to manual.  This will take less space on bulletin boards and
         less time to transfer files over modems.
