^4 Sandra's rather busy this month packing up all your orders ready for
^4Christmas,  so  we  thought  we'd  carry  on  the  theme of `Sandra's
^4Soapbox' from Déjà Vu's Spotlight Issue 4.

^5 This is what Sandra had to say.......

^6 One  of the reasons for so-called hackers pirating games is the high
^6price  of  commercial  software.   Another reason is the challenge of
^6breaking into a well protected game.

^6 Imagine my disgust on finding out that the DEJA VU Licensed Software
^6is appearing on bulletin boards and is doing the rounds of the pirate
^6circuits.

^6 We  are  providing  good quality software at a reasonable price.  We
^6don't  protect  the  software  in  any  way  to  make it easy for our
^6customers to make back-up copies.  We trust our customers not to pass
^6copies on to friends.

^6 Only  complete  lamers  would  pirate  licenseware.   They  are even
^6putting  their  own loading screens on the front.  What an incredibly
^6pathetic achievement it is!!!!

^2 We  agree!

^7  Piracy  started  out  to  tell  the  software houses that they were
^7charging  too  much for their games, it was thought that by spreading
^7these `cracked' copies, the price of software would be forced down to
^7a  reasonable  level.   Up  to  a  point  this  has happened with the
^7introduction  of  budget  ranges by many companies.  So these cheaper
^7titles  may  not be the latest chart toppers, but a good game doesn't
^7age  and  will  not  seem  out  of date a year or more after it first
^7appeared on the shelves.  Adventures are the best example of this.

^7 After  this  it became the aim for these cracking crews to put their
^7own  intro's  on the disk.  The challenge then became to be the first
^7to  spread  a  game/program, the more expensive the program, the more
^7prestige was gained.

^7 So  why  spread  a disk that costs a mere £3.50p in the first place?
^7What's  the  challenge  in  `cracking' a disk that has no protection?
^7Kids  do  that.   This  sort  of piracy is done by the people who the
^7crews  call  `lamers', ie people who contact them for copies of games
^7without  being  able to crack games themselves.  Who's the lamer now?
^7The  loading  screens  that have been spotted so far are not by kids,
^7they are names well known for cracking games.

^2 If  you  see  ANY  unofficial  copies  of Déjà Vu Licensed Software,
^2please  contact Sandra so that somthing can be done about it.  If you
^2see  anything  on  a  Bulletin  Board, please let her know which one.
^2Alternatively, let us know and we'll pass the message on.

^6 It  would  be a great shame if the idea of Licenseware died.  Sandra
^6has  created  somewhere  where  programmers  have  a  chance  to earn
^6royalties  on  programs  that  Software houses would not have thought
^6financially   viable.   Also,  many  people  have  come  to  rely  on
^6Licenseware  as  a  source  of  reasonably  priced  Software, this is
^6something  that is desperately needed when money is tight and there's
^6a hungry Amiga to feed.

^4 Believe  it  or  not, you can earn more per copy on Licenseware than
^4from many commercially released games!

^3 So SPREAD THE NAME.....NOT THE DISK!!!!
