********** TheBook V1.0 06-07-92 ********** A program by the Saint! using AMOS The Creator and Deluxe Paint 1V ************************* S.T.Poole M.S.F2011 Sarina, Qld. Australia 4737 Ph 079 566278 ****************** Details. TheBook is set up to hold 200 entries, with each entry concisting of 17 fields. These are (First Name) (Last Name) (Company Name) (Private Phone) (Buisness Phone) (Fax No.) (008 No.) and the Private address and buisness address concist of (Street) (Town) (State) (Country) (Post Code). For TheBook to opperate the disc containing it must be in DF0: If you load the program code into the Amos editor you will see that you can easily change the dir path to suit your setup. You can also increase the total records TheBook will hold. There are also instructions on how to use the Ram: disc with TheBook to greatly increase the speed of this program. The Folder AddressBook should contain the following files. 1. TheBookWB (The compiled program) 2. TheBookWB.info 3. TheBook.AMOS (The actual amos program) 4. ADDRESSDATA (The file containing the entries) 5. ADDRESSDATA.Bak (A backup starter file) (see errors!) 6. TheBookDoc (What you are using now) 7. TheBookDoc.info TheBook reads all records into memory on startup and uses this in the program, which makes it very fast, but also means that if there was a power failure or a fault in the program which i did not find, then all new entries would be lost. If you are entering a lot of records i advise you to save them regularly, however if you do not TheBook will automaticly save any changes made to the file when you exit the program. TheBook can be run from the workbench or cli or with a directory utility such as Directory Opus (which is the best i have seen yet). Directions. All selections are with the left mouse button. From the main screen you can < Add > a record, < Save > a record < Quit >, < Search > for a record, < Print > out all records. From < Search > you can < Edit > that record, < Quit > return to the main screen, < Delete > that record, < Print > that record. < Edit > Once you have searched and found the record you wish to edit selecting < No > will then enable you to select the < Edit > mode. You will be asked to select the field you wish to edit. Once you have made your selection you will be asked to enter that field. After you have entered the new field, the updated record will be displayed and you will be asked if you wish to edit another field, selecting < Quit > or < No > will exit the edit mode. < Add > Once you have selected < Add > you will be asked to make an entry for each field it turn. If you have no entry for that field, TheBook will except any symbol eg. Nil, 000, ---, ***. You will be asked if you wish to add another record, selecting < Quit > or < No > will exit to the main screen. < Save > Selecting < Save > will save any changes you have made to the records TheBook will automaticly save any changes when you exit. < Yes > A controll key used in the program. < Quit > Will check and save records if not done then exit the program. Also used as a controll key in the program. < No > A controll key used in the program. < Search > When you select < Search > you will be asked if you wish to manually search the records. 1. Manually Select < Yes > and all records will be displayed one at a time 2. By Field Select < No > and you will be asked to select the field you wish to search. Once this is done you will be asked to enter the field. If any records are found with that entry the record will be displayed and you will then be asked if you wish to continue. < Yes > will display the next record with that field or return you to the main screen if there are no other records. < Quit > will return you to the main screen. < No> will enable you to enter < Edit >, < Delete > or < Print > mode. Search Tips!! If you searched by field (First Name) for (Stephen). TheBook would find my address and any other (Stephen) on record. If you made a simple spelling mistake and typed the name in as (Stexzkh), TheBook would not find the record on the first search and would do second more detailed search. As long as the first letter of the entry is correct TheBook will find that record, and any other that start with that letter. Upper or lower case make no difference. You do not have to enter the full name. If ( Stephen ) was entered in as ( Step ) it would be found without a detailed search. If you wanted the name of a company and you could not recall its full name. Only that it was ( Inter ) something. Entering ( Inter ) as the company name would find ( InterLink Software Pty Ltd ). So there is no need to type in the full name only as many letters or numbers as you need. < Delete > Once you have searched and found the record you wish to delete selecting < No > will then enable you to select the < Delete > mode. Once this is selected you will be warned that TheBook cannot recover deleted files. < Quit > or < No > will return you to the main screen. < Yes > will delete that record in memory and return you to the main screen. You can save these changes to disc by selecting < Save > or these changes will be saved automaticlly when you quit the program. < Print > 1. From Main Screen This will print out on paper all entrys in TheBook. 2. From Search Mode. This will print out on paper that record only. Errors. There should!! be no bugs in TheBook, however if you find any please let me know. There must be at least one entry in TheBook for it to opperate, so if for any reason you loose the file ( ADDRESSDATA ) i have included the file ( ADDRESSDATA.Bak ). Rename this as ( ADDRESSDATA ) to start again if this has happened. ( Ps. Sorry about all the records. ) There will be spelling mistakes in these directions as i am a two fingered typest and often hit the wrong key. (also i cant spell) ********* Thats It GoodBy **********
