99 FontX is a new improved Text Font Editor, designed to be to text manipulation what SpriteX is to sprite manipulation. No matter how many fonts you may have amassed, there will always be a time when you need to create your own character sets, or edit existing fonts into something a little more personalised. LOAD This loads a previously designed font into the program for editing. On the FontX disk you will find a directory containing a number of previously designed fonts. Don't be afraid to load them in and experiment. You could even load in the Default Font from your AMOS Program disk. That way, when you reboot AMOS, the Editor will automatically use your font. Remember never to work from your original AMOS disk, always use a backup! Upon loading your choice of font, the individual characters are displayed on the left-hand side of the screen. Any of these characters can be altered simply by selecting them with the left mouse button. When you have hilighted a character, click once on the GET icon, and its enlarged image can be altered in the editing window at the right-hand side of the screen. To edit the character, click on any of the enlarged squares in the editing window. Don't be afraid to experiment, as the original character will remain intact unless you place a new character over the old one by clicking once on the PUT icon. So that you can see how your design will look when finished, there is a small window below the editing window which displays a real sized version of the character. GET/PUT Upgrading AMOS users will be familiar with the AMOS Sprite Editor's GET and PUT icons. The former takes an image from the sprite bank and the latter places an image into the sprite bank. FontX works in much the same way. Having loaded a font into the program, simply click on the character you wish to alter and the character should become hilighted. Then it is simply a case of clicking on the GET icon, and the enlarged character should appear in the editing window. If not, then try again. PUT is the exact opposite to GET. Having designed your character, click on whichever character you would like to be replaced and then click on PUT. Your character should now form part of the character set. CLEAR The CLEAR icon above the character set clears the whole set from both the screen and the memory. The CLEAR icon above the editing window clears the editing window of any characters. It has no effect on the character set unless PUT is chosen. FILL Fill simply fills the editing window with a character 8 pixels by 8 pixels. INVERT This inverts all of the pixels on the currently selected character. FLIP X This icon mirrors a character on the X axis. eg. < becomes > FLIP Y This icon mirrors a character on the Y axis. eg. ! becomes ¡ SAVE Your new font can be saved to disk by clicking on this icon. QUIT This quits the program and returns you to the AMOS Editor FontX 2.0 The next development of this program will be released towards the end of the year as Licenseware.
