^4 What would make[2^2 AMOS^4[0 programs run like their machine coded
^4 equivelents?

^4 The^2[2 AMOS Compiler[0^4 of course!

^5 By now many of you will have bought the Compiler and seen what it
^5can do for yourself, if so, please let us know what you think of it.
^5Also, if you have a problem with the Compiler, let us know, and we'll
^5see what can be done to help you.

^2[4 What does the Compiler do?[0

^1 It translates your[2 AMOS[0 Basic program into machine code which the
^1Amiga reads faster than Basic, therefore the program will run faster.

^7 However, it does not speed up all programs. Those using lots of AMAL
^7routines won't seem any faster as AMAL is already near machine code.
^7If you are using all basic, however, the speed difference will
^7surprise you. All mathematical calculations will be speeded up, e.g.
^7processes such as random routines are carried out far quicker than
^7before.

^6 We have tested the Compiler on many of the programs in the[1 AMOS P.D.[0
^6[1LIBRARY,[0 and most of these compile O.K. The ones that failed
^6miserably were those that already stretched the Amiga's memory to the
^6full.

^2[4 The Book.[0

^4 The manual is written and presented in the same style as the[2 AMOS[0
^4manual. It is well written and gives in depth descriptions of how to
^4install the compiler using all the possible combinations of drives,
^4memory, hard drives etc.

^2[4 The Updater.[0

^1[2 AMOS 1.3[0 comes with the Compiler free of charge, and updating takes
^1about 10 minutes. This only has to be done the once, so it's not too
^1much trouble.
 
^7 Updating a system can be rather a daunting task, but it has been
^7made an easy process in this case.

^7 You don't have to be a technical wizard to update[2 AMOS,[0 you just
^7follow the on-screen prompts, and away you go! Just remember

             ^3[2 DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR ORIGINAL AMOS DISK!![0

^6 Make a backup and update that. To get the best performance out of
^6the compiler, make sure that you have selected the correct
^6configuration for your set-up, this will speed up the working of
^6the program.

^4 There is a program supplied which will install your updated[2 AMOS[0
^4onto a hard drive.

^2 Goodies....^7 The[2 AMOS[0 Compiler is easy to use. It can be used
            ^7 directly from the CLI as well as via[2 AMOS,[0 so you don't
^7need to load[2 AMOS[0 to compile. You can also compile to[2 AMOS,[0 which
^7means that it is runnable inside[2 AMOS.[0 It is speedy,[1 AMOS DEMO II[0
^7took less than a minute to compile using 2 drives, 1meg memory. The
^7package comes with a very good file compacter, which squashes the
^7finished file very efficiently.

^2 Baddies....^5 The finished file size is larger than the original, but
            ^5 using the packer helps here. 

^4 Compiled programs are more acceptable to Software Houses as a lot of
^4people still have a phobia about anything written in Basic. Europress
^4have put copyright requirements in the manual, and these seem fair
^4enough. After all, they have given us^3[2 AMOS![0
