Short: Reply privately to public UseNet messages from DLG CopyNews (c) P. Eastham 1993 Version 1.2 --------------------------------------------------------------------- What is it? ~~~~~~~~~~~ CopyNews will copy a public UseNet message to a users private directory. I couldn't find an acceptable way to reply privately to a public UseNet message via DLG. I wrote this little utility to do the job. I am not 100% sure if the field definitions I am using are correct to convert a public message into a private message, but several messages I have used it on have gone out correctly and I have had replies, so it works. How to set it up: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Simply copy the CN executable to your DLG: directory, or anywhere else on your path. Create a menu entry on the message menu with OverLay, and not in CLI mode. Call the program thus: DLG:CN %UNAME %Msg_AreaNumber/%Msg_MsgNumber %MSG_AreaType %ANSI %UUCP (Order IS important!) CopyNews assumes your messages are in 'MAIL:'. Because CopyNews is for UseNet groups only (you can reply privately from all other areas) it will check that the message area is a UseNet newsgroup. If it isn't, the user is told so, and the program exits gracefully. If you want to over-ride this feature, simply put the word NEWSGROUP on the command line instead of %MSG_AreaType. CopyNews will also check the user has UUCP write access. If they don't, they will be informed. The message will still be copied. This will allow you to grant them permission to reply to the message if you so choose. You may over-ride this by putting the word WRITE on the command line instead of %UUCP. Program Status: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CopyNews is absolutely freeware. Use it as you please. I take no responsibility for any damage!
