The word emulate means "to strive to equal or excel, especially through imitation." A64 emulates the Commodore 64. This means that using A64 is just like using a real C64. This disk contains a demo version of A64. This version is fully functional, but after approximately 10 minutes it will automatically quit. The non-demo version of A64 is included with the product "The A64 Package," by QuesTronix. The A64 Package is a hardware and software product that was designed to give Amiga owners the ability to access Commodore 64 peripherals, programs and data directly from their Amiga. The A64 Package includes the following: o A64, a complete Commodore 64 emulator o A Hardware Interface that allows you to connect all C64 compatible disk drives and printers to your Amiga, including the 1541, 1571, 1581, CMD hard drives and more. The interface plugs into your Amiga's parallel port (the Amiga 1000 requires an additional adapter cable). o A64Tools, an Intuition based file transfer utility that allows you to easily copy files between C64 drives and Amiga drives. o Several CLI based utilities for performing a number of tasks, like transferring files, formatting C64 disks and printing Amiga text files to C64 printers. o A 104 page printed manual. GETTING STARTED Before running A64 you must first use the Install utility. The Install utility will copy some files that are needed by A64 to either your WorkBench disk or your SYS: partition of your hard disk. If you do not have a hard disk and you do not want to add these files to your normal WorkBench disk you should make a copy of your WorkBench and use the copy whenever you want to use A64. If you decide to use a copy of your WorkBench make sure you reboot your Amiga using the copy before running the Install utility. To install The A64 Package software use the following procedure: 1. Insert the A64 disk into any drive. 2. Double-click the A64 disk icon to open the disk window. 3. Double-click the TAP drawer icon to open the drawer window. 4. Double-click the Install icon. 5. A window will open and you will be prompted if it is ok to continue. Type [Y] to continue. The Install utility will then add the necessary files to your WorkBench or SYS: partition of your hard disk. A64 can be installed on a hard disk by simply dragging the TAP drawer to your hard disk, however you must still run the Install utility before running A64. After running the Install utility you are now ready to run A64. AGA NOTES Before running A64 on an AGA Amiga (ie. the A1200 and A4000), you should disable Mode Promotion and set your Workbench sprite pointer to low res. Mode Promotion can be turned on and off with the IPrefs utility and your Workbench pointer can be changed to low res with the Pointer Preferences utility.
