The three player option is only available with 14mhz or faster amigas. If You want to play from Hard Disk, just copy the drawer _Automobiles_ and all its contents into a suitable position in your drive. No external libraries are necessary to play Automobiles, everything the game requires is present. If you are playing from floppy drive, leave the disc write enabled. This is because the game saves the 20 best laptimes to the disc. Automobiles currently includes ten different tracks. Extra tracks can be installed easily into the game (when they are available, that is;) The Trackdata.dat file contains the information on the currently available tracks; do not alter this unless you have tracks to install. (Track data "disks" will contain more information on the installation procedure) Main Menu Menu options can be either selected using either a joystick or a mouse to control the arrow pointer, or directly by keyboard. 1.2.3. START : Pressing 1,2 or 3 starts the game with 1,2 or 3 players. If this menu item is accessed using the joystick, the game is started with the number of PLAYERS selected. P.PLAYERS : Swaps the number of PLAYERS, one, two or three. (As mentioned, the three player option is only available for faster-than-8mhz machines) L.LAPS : Increase the number of laps, maximum of 9. T.TRACK : Enter the track selection menu. K.CONTROLS : Enter the control arrangement screen. A.ACCELERATION : Choose between the two acceleration methods. H.LAP TIMES : Shows the top twenty lap times of the Current Track. S.SKID MARKS : If turned on, cars leave traces on the road C.COLLISIONS : If turned off, cars do not have any effect on each other. (This is if two or three players wish to beat the lap record at the same time, without letting other players to interfere) B.ABOUT : Displays The Essential About Screen. X.EXIT GAME : Exits the game immediately. This option is only accessible from the keyboard. Controls: By Default; Player One uses the joystick in the joystick port. Player Two uses the keyboard. Left Alt - Steer Left Left Amiga - Steer Right Right Alt - Accelerate Right Amiga - Brake Player Three uses the joystick in the joystick port. The control arrangement is alterable, via the CONTROL submenu. There are two different methods of acceleration available. Other uses the fire button to accelerate, the other method allows you to accelerate with pushing the joystick up. Braking is always done by pulling the joystick down (but who needs brakes anyway?) The two acceleration methods have no effect on keyboard, player on keyboard always accelerates with the Right Alt key. The Dashboard During the game, the players' progress is represented by symbols at the bottom of the playscreen. These become active when a player has crossed the goal line. These are displayed with the same color as the player's car. The number shows the number of laps to go. A waving Checkered Flag appears, when the car has reached the goal. It is not necessary to drive on any longer. If your current best laptime in the current race has improved, a clock appears. A 'X' mark appears if you have driven an unnecessary lap. Version 1.1 I have come across an "ECS/AGA Fixed" version of Automobiles, by some "scene" group. I could not make it work with my A500 so to me it seems like that version is just a load of old rubbish. The version should have worked fine on any Amiga, since it was tested on an (AGA!) A1200, A500 (1.3) and A2000/030. Get rid of that and of any other old 1.0 versions of Automobiles. The track file format has been changed and therefore the possible extra tracks cannot be loaded into it. New Features 1.1 - Music during menu selections, composed by Lagers. - Cars have a stupid whining sound, just like in reality. - Bigger and better sound effects - Alterable control arrangement. - Improved Dynamic Menu Operation(TM). - Cars do not get stuck into the top right corner. - Compressed track data. - Massively improved graphics. - 'Information' screen was replaced by 'Control'. - Extra track. - Longer documentation file. New Features 1.11 - Players are now referred as colors, Player One is red, Player Two is blue and Player Three is Yellow. In 1.1, if you changed the control arrangement, player "names" (joy1,joy2,keys) did not make any sense. - In some control arrangements, the mouse interfered with the joystick control. Not anymore! - Improved mouse operation. Automobiles 1.11 Presented By OverFlow Productions 1994 Memberlist: Hay Coding, SysOp, (Co-founder). Spinky Pal Graphics, Design, CoSysOp, (Co-founder).
