Short: Quake PAK file manager for the Amiga Author: Rune Jacobsen (shitlips@fido.euroline.no) Uploader: Rune Jacobsen (shitlips@fido.euroline.no) Type: game/patch This is the first public release of PakMan, v1.0ß. It is in no way complete, but should provide a useful tool for PAK handling nonetheless. Current features include: · Easy PAK browsing with nice MUI interface. · Extract files from PAK. · Add files to PAK. · Make directories in PAK files. · Rename files/directories. · Internal memory tracking system to avoid memory leaks. · PAK optimization. · Fully localized, ATO translations pending. · Information window with details on PAK fragmentation and stuff. One particular feature will be added before v1.0 final is released, and that is the ability to multiselect files/directories when adding to a PAK file. This is currently a rather annoying limitation, but will hopefully be fixed shortly. *PLEASE OBSERVE* This is BETA software. This means that it is NOT finished, and that there might be bugs and problems still in the code. There is one problem in particular you need to know about: If you plan to use PakMan on PAKs for QuakePlayer v0.95/v0.96 or the full Quake version by clickBOOM, ALWAYS do a backup of the PAK first. There are several known cases of QuakePlayer/Quake crashing with PAKs modified with PakMan. We have tested PakMan PAKs on the PC version of Quake without any problems, so this MIGHT be a problem with QuakePlayer/Quake. However, this is currently unknown. Consider yourself warned. PakMan is part of, and meant as a contribution to, the AQUA (Amiga Quake Utilities Association) project. This project is an attempt to organize the effort of creating as many Quake related utilities for the Amiga as possible. The AQUA project is currently in the process of setting up a web site to deal with the developement of Quake related utilities for the Amiga. Announcements will be made on Usenet and other proper channels. Enjoy the program! Rune Jacobsen
