There are a couple of bugs in this program but it's great for tracks which you don't want to edit or copy to a different directory using cli (your AMIGA will crash if you copy a file crunched using CRM version 1.9T). If you do want to edit a track crunched with this you can load it into the editor as normal but you'll have to save it under a different name and then delete the old file and rename it back to it's original name. There's a lot of cool stuff out there and most of it costs a fraction of simmilar PC programs. 5. Microsoft doesn't release software for the amiga anymore !! YES !! 6. The PPC CPU is much better then Intel type CPUs. 7. the painting programs (PPaint and DPaint) on the AMIGA are much better than their PC counterparts. 8. Output can be recorded to VCR without the need for external hardware. 9. The "early startup" screen will allow you to boot without a startup-sequence for easy dos acces and you can also select different devices to boot from. 10. The AMIGA users !! 11. You can easily emulate MACs and it's possible to emulate PCs at reasonable speeds. 12. You don't have to buy a new AMIGA every 6 weeks. 13. Software is optimized, so you don't need the latest hardware to play the latest games. 14. Thanks to the libraries it's much easier for programmers to make programs. and it's possible to upgrade libraries which could even improve older programs ! 15. AMINET ! 16. Cheap commercial software. You don't have to pay 50 pounds for a game ! 17. ScalaMM Create slideshows, presentations etc. using your mouse button and then show them on a big screen TV, try that with a PC. 18. Datatypes. View almost every file format ! 19. You can turn off your amiga at any time as long as there's no disk activity. But what I like best about this one is the fact that it never crashed and workes with Doom shareware, Doom 1 and Doom 2. (Version 0.7) ADoom - slightly slower than Doomattack on my setup but still manages to run at an impressive speed. Version 0.9 had the ability to play MIDI files in the back ground but for some reason this option has been removed. This isn't to bad as most MIDI files sound horrible when used whitout a MIDI instrument. (Tested version 1.1) AmiDoom - This one is very SLOW and lacks options use ADoom or Doomattack instead. Later versions should be better (I've got version 0.4). AMIGAdoom - The speed on the normal version is about the same as AMIdoom but there's also a FPU version, maybe that will speed things up. (version 1.1 ??) PsiDOOM - It's possible to start PSIDoom now, but who'd want to it's slow, lacks audio and joypad support. but at least it's improved since previous releases, so there's still some hope for PSIDOOM, yet! (version 0.8) VDOOMppc - Requires a PPC so I haven't been able to test it. If it's optimized for PPC it should run very fast. But according to the documentation this is not the case (YET ??). ZHAdoom - This version (0.6) doesn't work on my 68030. ** (maybe they should stop with the 68K version and spend their time improving the PPC version ?). ZHAdoomPPC - Yet another PPC doom port, don't know if it will work ? I've heard that on a (fast) PPC it will reach around 50 FPS (!). (latest version is 0.6) So if you want to play DOOM (1, 2 or another version) on a 68K get DOOMattack or ADoom. They are very fast (speeds are simmilar to alienbreed 3D II). They never crashed while I was playing the game (or while loading). These two also support the CD32 joypad and ADoom even supports the Sega Megadrive joypad (3 or 6 button). If you're a lucky PPC owner get ZHAdoomPPC instead. ** Because they didn't work properly on my machine doesn't mean they won't work on yours, I've got a lot of programs running in the background which might cause some doom ports to fail or slow down ? @{" Click here for some DOOM cheats " link doomcheat} p.s. Despite the fact that DOOMattack and ADoom are the fastest doomports available, they're still not as fast as some of the @{" Doomclones " link doomclones} available on the AMIGA. @endnode @node doomclones " DOOM CLONES ON THE AMIGA " Here's a list of doom clones available on the AMIGA. Alien Breed 3D - One of the first doomstyle games on the amiga. At the time it was very good boosting features that where once thought impossible on the AMIGAs planar gfx. But compared to modern doom clones the gfx are just much to blocky ! Alien Breed 3D 2 - A great improvement over the first release. It had improved gfx a faster 3D engine and the ability to jump. This is still one of the best DOOM clones on the AMIGA. Breathless - As far as I know this was the first Doom clone on the AMIGA to feature a 1*1 pixel mode. The 3D engine is very smooth even when compared to newer doom clones it's very good. This is one great game! Fears - Worthless gfx, animations and sound. The only good thing about this game is that it's fast. I would therefor only recommand it to people with a standard A1200. Gloom 1 - The first real doom clone on the amiga. Like AB3D it had very blocky GFX but this changed when Gloom deluxe was released. Gloom Deluxe - This version had a 1*1 pixel mode, the ability to use different screen sizes and it was the first AMIGA 3D game to support CGX. Unfortunatly the 3D engine is rather slow. Gloom 3 - This is nothing more then Gloom Deluxe with new levels. There are much better 3D shoot'em ups available now, so unless your the worlds biggest gloom fan you shouldn't bother. Nemac IV - A friend of mine bought this game when he got his blizzard 1230-IV. It looks very good and plays even better. It's also one of the few doom clones to support the graffity card. This game is highly recommanded to all game payers. Testament - This game got great reviews in all AMIGA magazines. Why, I don't know! The gfx are terrible when compared to other games. The background 'music' is great when you first play the game, but it soon becomes very irritating. Trapped 2 - This isn't realy a doom clone but if you like 3D games you'll love this one. It's one of the few 3D games on the amiga to use polygons, it's got increddible lightning effects. This game looks great even when compared to games available on the playstation (it looks much better than tombraider 2 on the psx). Play the demo from AFCD 14 and if you like it BUY IT !! @{b}Doom clones I haven't played @{i}(yet).@{ub}@{ui} Citadel Genetic species - I've played an early demo of this and it looked very prommising.
