" This is a review of the Gloom 3 DEMO. Hopefully things will improve in the final release. system requirements: An AMIGA CD-Rom 020 or higher Harddrive or Diskdrive to save setup to. (akiko chip is supported but as far as i know the game will not run on CD32 without an SX32 with harddrive or floppydrive.) People used to say that it's impossible to do Doom-clones on the amiga but alienbreed 3d and gloom proved them wrong. The first doom-clones on the AMIGA were very blocky, and it sometimes was hard to see what's on the screen. But this soon changed when breathless and gloom deluxe appeared and alienbreed 3D 2 and Genetic Species were even better. And now there's gloom 3. Gloom 3 is nothing more then Gloom deluxe with new levels and slightly faster c2p conversion (the C2P routines can also be used in gloom deluxe), normally this isn't a real big problem but the level in the demo version of gloom 3 are worse than those from gloom deluxe and the GFX are terrible. If you really want to buy a version of gloom buy Gloom Deluxe and use the C2P routines from the Gloom 3 demo and the level editor to make some good levels this is much better than Gloom 3. overall: A very dated doom-clone. Unless there are some serious improvements in the complete game go for one of the following games instead. -Breathless -Genetic Species -Nemac-IV Or wait for QUAKE !! @endnode @node Gamerev " GAME REVIEWS " Here are reviews for a couple of games I've bought in the last 6 months. - AMIGA - @{" The Chaos Engine 2 " link ch2} @{" Flying high " link fhrev} @{" Wendetta 2175 " link wen2175} - N 64 - @{" James Bond Goldeneye " link gold} @endnode @node ch2 " The Chaos Engine 2 " system requirements: Any AMIGA with 1 MB chip will do fine. There is an AGA version of this game. The game can't be installed on hard drive but Jean-Francois FABRE wrote an installer. The Chaos Engine is one of my all time favorite shoot'em ups. So when the sequel finaly appeared I immediately bought it. Since the game couldn't be installed to harddrive I decided to play it from the disk. After, what seemed like, hours and hours of loading I was finaly able to play the game. The idea of the game is to complete a number of tasks and get to the exit of the level before your oponent does, in the process of doing this you'll have to kill a number of enemies (including your oponent). for each task you complete before your oponent and for each enemy you kill you get a couple of points. The player who finishes the level with most points is the winner. The first couple of levels are easy but as in the first game things soon get harder. The game is pretty cool, but the first game was MUCH better, so if you've never heard of the chaos engine go and get part 1 (it's one of the best games ever). GFX - 7/10 sound - 7/10 playability - 7/10 lastability - 6/10 overall - 7/10 (8/10 if you've got the HD installer) Verdict: The game is not to bad it's just a shame that the first one was MUCH better ! @endnode @node fhrev "Flying High" Minimum system: AGA Amiga 020 fastram CD-rom or Harddrive recommanded system: AGA Amiga (Still no CGX racing games) 25 Mhz 020 (the higher the better, no PPC support) fastram CD-Rom or Harddrive Genre : Racing (sort of) Publisher: Islona Price : around FL 60,- When I first read about this game in one of the various AMIGA magazines (all 2 of them), I was filled with excitement. Finally a racing game that could kick sega rally's ass. So when Courbois software got the game I immediatly ordered it. The next day the mailman arrived with a small pakage. My heart started beating faster and faster as I ripped of the pakaging and put the CD in my CD-rom. I clicked on the icon and the first thing I noticed was that the CD contained multiple backups of the same game so I decided to click on the main game directory and loaded the game. after A few seconds the (small) intro sequence was playing. then the main menu appeared, this is represented as a shop, I went to the option screen and set the screen mode to 320*256 and started the game. I was ready to race but the game was to slow on my 50 MHZ 68030 so I read the manual to find out how to alter the screen size. BUT WHAT IS THIS apparantly there are only 3 possible screen sized namely: 320 * 256 fullscreen 1*1 pixels 320 * 256 quarter screen 1*1 pixels 320 * 256 fullscreen 2*2 pixels So I chose the quarter screen setting and once again started the game. The game was now running at a good speed but unfortunatly the game was crap. Finishing high is just a result of pure luck rather than skill playablility was nowhere to be found. The tracks are filled with cones and other obstacles which are almost impossible to see resulting in more crashing than racing. The only nice touch about this game is the sound which is filtered when you drive thru a tunnel resulting in a demped sound. The verdict: GFX : 8/10 Sound : 7/10 Playability : 3/10 Lastability : 3/10 Overall : 5/10 it should have been MUCH MUCH better. Suggestions : How about more screen sizes so that the game can take full advantage of your system (take a look at XTR or even Nemac IV). How about tracks with less obstackels this would surely make the game more fun (I've heard that an editor is on its way !) @endnode @node wen2175 " Wendetta 2175 " System : CD32 or A1200/A4000 CD-rom 0.5 MB fast ram Genre : shoot'm up A couple of years ago the games market was flooded with sideward scrolling shoot'm ups (agony, Z out, D-Hero, R-type etc..) and at first sight this game seems no different. The first level is a smooth scrolling level with good aga backdrops. But when you reach level 2 you will notice a change, level 2 is a 3D level like the ones founs in Super Stardust. Basicly this is all there is it's just a 2D scrolling shooter with some semi-3D levels thrown in. It's just an average MUCH TO EASY shooter which you'll complete in a couple of hours. When you've competed the game you will be presented with a slide show of beautiful girls, it's a shame it's got nothing to do with the story of the game. Because it is so easy I can only reccomand it to people who thought the demo of D-Hero was much to hard. Else go for one of the before mentioned games they are very old but will keep you up for days on end. GFX - 8/10 some nice cut scenes Music - 8/10 ok playability - 9/10 GREAT lastability - 1/10 POOR (It will last for about 2/3 hours !) overall : 6/10 MUCH TO EASY !!! @endnode @node gold " James Bond Goldeneye N64" What the hell is a N64 game doing in here ?? The reason I'm reviewing this game is that my friend Aron is telling everybody that this game isn't very good, but I LOVE THIS GAME. Goldeneye is a 3D shoot'em up based on the movie with the same name. You play James Bond and you have to save the world (SURPRISE !). Ok so the plot isn't very original. What makes this game such a great game is the control. Unlike 3D games on both the AMIGA and pc you don't have to remmember loads of keys, everything can be controlled using the Joypad/stick. The only problem with this is that you have to cycle trough the weapons, wich can be frustrating at times. The game features loads of weapons, around 20 levels, multiplayer mode (one of the coolest features of this game has to be the ability to play with 4 players at the same time, you'll need a big t.v. though) and 3 difficulty levels. GFX - 9/10 Sound - 8/10 Playability - 9/10 Lastability - 7/10 overall - 8/10 Sugestions : AN AMIGA VERSION WITH CGX and PPC SUPPORT WOULD KICK ASS !! p.s. The AMIGA is still the best computer in the entire world. So keep supporting the AMIGA ! @endnode @node share " Shareware" @{" MPEGA " link mpega} a FAST mpeg audio decoder. @endnode @node mpega "MPEGA" Here's a SMALL review of MPEGA ! I didn't have time to write a good review. minimum system requirements: an AMIGA 020 harddrive minimum (usefull) system: an AMIGA Fast 030 or slow 040 with about 5mb of free fast ram OR fast 040/060 harddrive MPEGA is a small program which will allow you to play back MPEG audio files (layers I,II and even III). There are severall versions to fit your processos. MPEGA is a cli based program which may make it a bit difficult for new AMIGA owners. What's so special about MPEGA ? IT'S VERY FAST ! Decoding MPEG audio requires a lot of cpu power and other MPEGA decoders need at least a fast 040 to be usefull but this one will allow you to play back MP3 files at a frequency of 22050 Khz in 16 bit on a 50 Mhz 030 (you'll need a lot of ram for buffering and you're limited to about 4 minutes but the frequency and quality of playback can be altered fo bigger files). If you haven't got a 030 you can still use MPEGA to convert MPEG files into AIFF,RAW or WAV files. Be warned though, MP3 requires around 1MB for a minute of audio Wav,Aiff and Raw need around 10MB for a minute. Overall: The best MPEG playback program on ANY computer, it's very fast. There are several GUI's available on aminet for people who think cli based programs are to difficult. If you love music on you're amiga you'll love this. P.S. I've just started work on an AREXX based gui for MPEGA. @{"click here 4 more info" link REXX}. @endnode @node t20g " ALLTIME TOP 20 GAMES" Here's a list of the games I play from time to time ! 0.
