AMI-gotchi v1.23 (C)opyright Samuel Brookes 1997 Freeware Released : September 1997 Hi! I`m Samuel Brookes, the coder of this game. It`s not the most interesting or original game on the AMIGA but I hope you liked it anyway. If you do like it you will be glad to hear that I`m working on a shape grabber to let you use your own customised shapes with AMI-gotchi. I was originaly going to going to release this as shareware, but due to the quality and my kindness I decided I'd send it to Amiga Formats Readers Games section. You can copy it to anyone as long as all the files remain the same and the maximum charge for this is £2.Are n`t I kind? Don`t answer that! Although this is freeware I don`t mind a postcard saying what you think of it, preferably one with a picture of some sort on the front especialy if you live on the coast or outside of England.Or I supose you could just play on it and not contact me. I don`t realy care. This game will only work from a disc called "AMI-gotchi" with all the files on it. How to use AMI-gotchi: If and when it comes to a window saying press a certain number to do something but there is no cursor then you will have to press the left mouse button until you get to a window with a white cursor and press the opropriate key. You will not see the number you pressed apear on the screen. If in a window it says "Press the L.M.B. to continue" it means press the Left Mouse Button. The idea of the game is to keep the AMI-gotchi alive as long as you can. when you feed it sometimes it will go to the toilet, when this happens it is a good idea to clean it up straight away but you can leave it. If you have 5 craps on the screen it would be a very good idea to clean it out as if he goes to the toilet angain he will die. You will get a message telling you to clean him out when there is 5 craps anyway. If you feed him and feed him he will get full but you can still give it as many drinks as you want. It will eventually become hungry again. To find out how to heal him read a bit further down. To clean away any mess when it comes to a window with 5 options press the left mouse button and press the number 3 and hit return. The other options are: 0 = Quit 1 = Feed him 2 = Information 3 = Clean him out 4 = Give him medication To make your choice press the left mouse button and you will have a blank window with a white cursor in the top-left corner of the window, press the number you want and hit return. it will then take you to the window you asked for. To give it some medicine press the number 4. This will make him healthy. To see and use the information window press number 2 in the options window. This will take you to a screen with his weight at the top, how many meals he has had under that, how many drinks he has had below that and then how many times he has been to the toilet. To exit from this window click the left mouse button. To feed him select option number 1, you will be faced with a window asking you if you want to give him a meal or a drink. They are as follows: 1 = Full meal 2 = drink If you want to quit select option 0, when another window appears select 0 or 1. 0 = Quit 1 = Go back to AMI-gotchi If you select 0 it will dump you back into your workbench or whatever you loaded it from. This like the AMI-gotchi v1.23 is freeware and the same rules apply, that you don't have to send anything but I would be very pleased if you did and as a small reward I will include your name in the ReadMe of future version of AMI-gotchi under the section where I thank everyone who has contributed things and helped me in producing this game. Please can I have at least a post card saying that you like it if you do, If I get no responce or very little I will think that knowone likes it so I will stop making updates. There is still 1 bug, the shapes grabber will only work on screens that are 640X256. How to use: On this disc (AMI-gotch) you will find a drawer called GFX, in that drawer there will be a file called "Custom AMI-gotchi.IFF" Change the name to something like "Custom AMI-gotchi2.IFF" or anything you want as long as it is different to it original name, or you could even delete it as long as you have got another copy of it. Now load this into a paint package like DPaint or Personal Paint and you will see 14 green boxes with a few lines of text in the middle of the page, read the text. Clear the insides of the green boxes you want to change and put in your own graphics. Remember anything outside the green boxes is not included. I have included 9 of the 4X4 blocks which I used to make the AMI-gotchi's. Now save this as "Custom AMI-gotchi.IFF" in the GFX drawer of this disc. Now run the Shapes Grabber. When the first window appears press the left mouse button to continue. it will load your shapes as they looked in the paint package, after about 1 to 2 seconds it will disappear and there will be more disc activity. It will then show the shapes one by one for about 2 seconds each. It will eventually come up with a window telling you that it has finished. Press the left mouse button to exit. If sometime during showing the shapes on their own a green window appears with an error, just press escape. You DO NOT have to rerun it as it will have already saved the shapes but you can rerun just to make sure if you want. If you like your customised shapes and they are of good quality you can send them to me. If they are good and I like them I will scrap the original shapes and add your shapes to any updates. If I get a few good sets of shapes I will include them all for you to decide which ones to use. You will also get your name in the credits. If you are good at drawing you can even have a go at creating a new title page for it, it must be 320X256 (Lores) and a maximum of 32 colours, I might even use yours instead of mine in any updates. Send them to the address above. Other notes: There is a few things I need to add to this ReadMe before I go. As you know I finished the Shapes Grabber in time to released with this. This was sent to the Amiga Format Reader Games and is freeware. It CAN goto sleep (I think). I added in the programming to make it goto sleep but I did not have enough time to test it enough before I sent it to AF. Can someone please upload this to AMINET for me as I do not have a modem. Please send me a post card with a pretty picture on the front. Enjoy! Samuel Brookes 1997.
