Changes New features in V6. Install-OctaMED OctaMED installation script (see @{"Installation" LINK rm_install}). XPKGuide (dir) An AmigaGuide front-end supporting packed files. After the initial installation, the Installation Disk isn't usually required, unless you want to re-install OctaMED. However, the Changes file and XPKGuide documentation are not copied by the installation procedure, you will have to access them off the installation disk. Disk 2: OctaMEDPlayer (dir) A freely distributable OctaMED player program, and its documentation. Demos (dir) Some demonstration music. Libs (dir) medplayer.library and octaplayer.library Some third-party programs may require these libraries. Programmers (dir) Player sources and documentation for programmers. Be sure to read "ReadMe.doc" first! Extras (dir) Contains: OCTAMED_AREXX.doc OctaMED's ARexx documentation Rexx (dir) A couple of ARexx scripts written by Ed Wiles. They may be useful both as such and as examples. Keyboard (dir) Some useful keyboard shortcut collections that you may want to use: PadI1/PadI2.keyboard Alternative numeric keypad configurations for changing instruments. PadT1/PadT2.keyboard Alternative numeric keypad configurations for turning tracks on/off. PTKeys.keyboard Emulates some keyboard functions of Protracker. OctaMEDPro.lamigakeyboard Defines Left-Amiga shortcuts for menu items not having a Right-Amiga shortcut. (By Ed Wiles) OctaMEDPro.returnkeyboard Makes the Return key close windows. (By Ed Wiles) The installation script copies the entire contents or selected parts of Disk 2 to your hard disk, if desired. Non-bootable floppy installation copies directories Extras/Keyboard and Extras/Rexx. The rest of the files will have to be accessed directly off the disk. @ENDNODE @NODE rm_comp "Compatibility" OctaMED requires operating system 2.04 or later, but OctaMEDPlayer and executable modules saved by OctaMED, still only require Kickstart/WB 1.2 or higher to run, thus allowing you to pass on your PD music (along with the OctaMEDPlayer itself) to others that may still be using an older Amiga®. (Note that the OctaMEDPlayer is the ONLY part of this disk that is freely distributable). OctaMED and OctaMEDPlayer support the AmigaGuide® system to provide on-line help, allowing you to press HELP at any time to get a complete manual in hypertext format. Use the guide via OctaMED, by pressing the HELP key whilst the prog is running. No commercial printing of the docs is allowed by law, they may be printed out for the purchaser's personal use only, they may not be passed on. Printing any portion of the on disk help or "OctaMED Companion" IS illegal and any Company wishing to do so must first apply for a licence. OctaMED uses the following disk-based operating system libraries: amigaguide.library® (optional), but required to use the on-line help. Available on WB 3.0 or later, but for WB 2 users an older version is provided in the LIBS directory. asl.library (obligatory) diskfont.library (optional, required for font support) iffparse.library (optional, required for loading IFF samples) lh.library (optional), great compression, licenced with author (Olaf Barthel). powerpacker.library (optional), needed for crunching etc, it is available on this disk. Licenced with author (Nico François). reqtools.library (optional, if ReqTools requesters desired) xpkmaster.library (optional, required for XPK support, not included with OctaMED) (Amigaguide® and wb 2.1 files are used under licence with Commodore) Besides AmigaGuide, the following programs may be optionally used as OctaMED's hypertext display program: Hyper© .guide reader, reads PowerPacked .guide files. Hyper, from version 1.19b is copyright RBF Software and may not be used within commercial/sharware/licenceware, without obtaining a licence. XPKGuide v1.6 .guide reader, reads PowerPacked .guide files. The author of XPKGuide is Simon Dick and he has very kindly given specific permission to include his program for use within OctaMED (why not e-mail him on sidick@essex.ac.uk and say hello). One final thing..., we have found that depending on where your 1200 was assembled, (don't ask us why!), the Chord function does not work on that particular A1200 keyboard, (works fine all the others, including the 4000's!), so if you are using an A1200 and this function fails to work, then you will have to insert your chords manually, don't blame us!! @ENDNODE @NODE rm_mems "MED USERS GROUP" If you haven't yet joined the MED Users Group (or MUG for short), we strongly recommend that you do! It must always be installed to suit your Amiga configuration. The provided Install-OctaMED script will take care of the installation automatically. You have three different installation options: 1) Bootable disk 2) Non-bootable disk (requires booting from the Workbench disk) 3) Hard disk installation In cases 1 and 2 make sure you have a blank disk (may be unformatted) and a standard Workbench disk available. In order to install OctaMED Version 6, just click the Install-OctaMED icon and follow the instructions. @ENDNODE @NODE rm_copyright "Copyright" ©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©©© © © © OctaMED is copyright © 1991-1995 Teijo Kinnunen & Ray Burt-Frost. © © Worldwide distribution Copyrights owned by R. The Copyrighted OctaMED.guide files have been written and updated by Ed Wiles, (based mainly on the documentation of older versions of OctaMED). Note that these may not be reproduced without permission. The icons for OctaMED/OctaMEDPlayer have been designed by Izrael Similä (Iz Productions). Thanks! OctaMED has been pre-release-tested by Richard Bannister, Kevan Craft, Tony Horgan, Bjørn A. Lynne, Ed Wiles, Daniel Amor, Stephan Fuhrmann, Dean Murray and Paul Overraa Thank you! Also many thanks for the numerous suggestions sent in by users worldwide. And last, but certainly not the least, thanks to Ray for suggesting and subsequently taking care of the world distribution of OctaMED! @ENDNODE @NODE rm_suppliers "Suppliers Licenced by RBF Software" Note that DevWare are no longer licenced to act as our N. American distributors as after having sold thousands of Dollars worth of our program in America, instead of sending us the agreed payments, they chose to steal the Royalties and plough it back into the company to attempt to keep themselves bouyant!! The boss, Scot Pincus, has ignored our attempts to sort this out and matters are now in the hands of a debt recovery agency. So, if buying products from this Company, be aware of this fact! **Update on the DevWare Saga Well, we have had no luck contacting the above person and according to one of his ex employees he has apparently pulled the plugs of all the phone numbers at his DevWare company and used the money, ( some of that is ours as well ), to apparently start up all over again calling himself NT Inc. So, be carefull and may we suggest that you check them out first before placing an order, as if it IS being run by Scot Pincus you would be well advised to place any orders with great caution!!! Finaly, please note that V6 can now be purchased from the well known ( and trustworthy ), Amiga Library Services. [ Fred Fish ] Please contact ALS for price details. RBF Software has now re-commenced selling Octamed directly in the UK and by cutting out the middle man and his "mark up" we are now able to offer V6 at a "massive" reduction in price.... UK orders: £25.00 outside UK: £30.00 Note that this is for the English language version 6 ONLY. All EC and worldwide orders by Eurocheque, Giro or bank draught ONLY. Please write to: Ed Wiles, 9 Kirkland Wynd, Lochvale, Dumfries, DG1 4ES, SCOTLAND. NOTE TO BRITISH USERS: You may notice the odd American spelling in the help file. This is intended as an aid users living in countries where English isn't the first language (there's quite a few, you know ;'), since it's likely that American rather than English spellings will be familiar. (Anyway, who ever thought of putting a "u" in "color" ??-) The original Latin word didn't have a "u" in it, so ... ??!?!? :-D ) NOTE TO AMERICAN USERS: I've included as many American spellings as I know, but if I've got (sorry, gotten :) anything wrong, please tell me!
