Short: HD Installer for SWOS (...95/96, EC'96) Uploader: adam@chemul.uni.lodz.pl (Piotr Bieniek) Author: adam@chemul.uni.lodz.pl (Piotr Bieniek) & Sentinel Type: game/patch Using this program you can install Sensible World of Soccer on your HD. Main part of it is written by Sentinel. I've modified it only a little. I had to do it because it didn't work with SWOS 1.1, 95/96 and EC'96. Features: - 1.0, 1.1, 95/96 and EC'96 versions of SWOS supported. - easy way of installation (installer script). - an icon included. Requirements: - 3 meg of RAM (tested on 2MB Chip / 4MB Fast) - hard disk (if you haven't one, why have you downloaded it?) Using: First of all you have to have an Installer somewhere in your system path. I think the best place for it is C: directory. Then you can run installer script by clicking on an "SWOS Install" icon. Now you can set the directory where the game should be installed, choose the version of SWOS, insert SWOS disks and wait. Disclaimer: This program has been tested with all supported (1.0, 1.1, 95/96 and EC'96) versions of SWOS and it seems to work properly. However authors are not responsible for any loss of data, damages to software or hardware that may result directly or indirectly from the use of this program. I can't guarantee, that my installer works with all pirated versions of SWOS. However it should work with originals. ADVERTISEMENT If you are a fan of SWOS try to download SWOS data editor. It's available in Aminet /pub/aminet/game/patch/SWOSEd.lha. It's not an older version of swosedv2.lha file! Download SWOSEd.lha! DOES IT WORK WITH 95/96? Forgive me bugs in previous version of HD installer, which didn't let some versions of SWOS work properly, because Amiga was crashing. It didn't work with original SWOS 95/96 for example... Sorry, my fault. Now it works. I tried to install original SWOS 95/96 using updated HD installer and it works. What to do if it doesn't work with your version of the game? Order an original copy from Sensible Software. IMPORTANT FOR SWOS 95/96 AND EC'96 USERS: Don't format, delete or do whatever with your original SWOS disks. Sometimes you'll have to insert these disk to floppy drive. I have tried but I can't find a procedure, which checks is a proper disk inserted. Everything will be loaded from HD (well, from the memory, indeed) of course. BOOT DISK Even if your Amiga has 6MB of RAM, sometimes SWOS can't be loaded properly because of memory fragmentation, an error message appears, or ECS/OCS version is loaded even if you have an AGA machine. How to solve this problem? Very simple. Prepare a special boot disk. 1. Format a diskette and make it bootable (use C:Install command) 2. Create a drawer called "s" on this disk 3. Create a file called "startup-sequence" in this drawer using your favourite text editor. It should look like this: --- Cd Work:Games/SWOS ; specify a path where SWOS is installed on your HD here ssboot swos --- 4. Every time you want to play SWOS, boot your Amiga from this boot disk. If you have an AGA machine, but still ECS/OCS version of SWOS is loaded even from boot disk, try to write "ssboot swos2" instead of "ssboot swos". On my A1200 AGA version is loaded without any changes, but I got some reports from users of Blizzard turbo cards that they can play only ECS/OCS version of SWOS. If you tried everything and SWOS AGA is still unreachable for you, I'm sorry. I can't do anything more for you... On my A1200 everything works fine! WWW PAGE If you have any problems using HD installer or you want take a look at my other programs, you can access the following WWW page. http://www.thenet.co.uk/~edificant/piotr/index.html Before you mail me, please, look for your answers there. I'll have more time to write new programs! Thanks to Jeff Crawford for help with creating this WWW page. PUBLIC DOMAIN? SHAREWARE? FREEWARE? - NO, IT'S PRAYWARE! What is prayware? Well, you can use this program without any restrictions, freely copy it etc., but... you have to pray God for help for the new Champions of Poland - Widzew Lodz - to enter the Champions League. That's all. THANKS I'd like to thank Sven Goehler. He helped me to fix the bugs in SWOS 95/96 installer (it didn't work on non-AGA machines). Many thanks for TRiSTAN (Peter Jansson) and Peter van Hanegem. Without them HD installer for SWOS EC'96 would be ready much time later. Greetings to all registered users of SWOS Ed. Enjoy HD version of SWOS.
