|r2 |c1|t1THE INTREPID V1.5|r1 |c1by Peter Gage|c9|t0|r2 |+3Welcome to Operation Winterfox Lieutenant. For information concerning your mission consult the Mission Com. Because this is your first mission using the INTREPID, please take time to become familiar with the controls.|r3 |f1|t1Copyright (C) 1991, Peter Gage|c8|f1|t0 |e |c3|f2|t1MAIN CONTROL|c9|f1|t0|r1 |+7|c2"GRID" BUTTON :|c9 Brings up NAVIGATIONAL COMPUTER.|r1 |+3|c2"COMPUTER" BUTTON :|c9 Brings up MISSION COMPUTER.|r1 |c2"NO QUESTIONS" BUTTON :|c9Brings up INTREPID OPERATING MANUAL.|r1 |c5|t1STATUS GAUGES|t0 |+4Tellink : Status report screen & LCD display.|r1 |+6Clock : Accurate display of current time.|r1 |+1Fuel Gauge : Displays fuel consumption|r1 Armor Gauge : Graphical display of damage inflicted on the INTREPID.|r1 Shell Count : Display of remaining ammo.|r1 |c2Toggle Switch:|c9 [|c2CAUTION|c9] Opens door to INTREPID auto destruct button.|r1 |+7|+8use ONLY in extreme circumstance. |e |c3|f2|t1NAVIGATIONAL COMPUTER|c9|f1|r1 |+3This is the heart of the INTREPID. From the NAV-COM you will control all movement of the INTREPID as well as your ATP PROBE.|r1 The controls:|r1 COMPASS : Control The INTREPID movement. |+4KEY : Gives description for map icons. |+2PROBE : Control the ATP PROBE movement. CONFIRM : Carry out given commands. |+3EXIT : Return to Main Control. |t0|e |+3On the left you will see a grid map of sector B18. Your dropzone is in the lower center. to move the INTREPID, first click on the Compass button. you will be given the eight direction NAV-COM controls. Select the direction you wish to move and click the Confirm button. You will then move into the seclected coordinate. This takes one unit of fuel and five minutes. The INTREPID can move one grid per turn, including diagonal.|r1 |+3Your PROBE can move independently of the INTREPID by utilizing the Probe controls. Click on the Probe button and you are shown the eight direction Probe controls. Now select the destination for the probe. The SEARCH: message is sent by the probe giving you an exact report of the grid the probe is in (i.e. a Search: 7 would mean there are seven enemy units in that grid). If the probe is in the same grid as the INTREPID it is considered docked and will move with the INTREPID until given an independent destination. The ATP PROBE is capable of going two grids per turn. |e |+3Now click the Confirm button and both vehicles will move to their respective destinations. If you have made no movement of the tank or probe, the Confirm button will let out a gronk sound, telling you to check your settings. You may move only the Probe if you wish to conserve fuel, but time is still consumed and there is the chance of an enemy ambush on your idle tank.|r1 |+3As you move your vehicles, the radar will detect what is directly adjacent to them and will update the info to your map. Using your INTREPID and ATP PROBE in tandem you will be able to search the landscape quickly. Use the KEY button for info regarding the icons on the map. |e |c1|f2|t1MISSION COMPUTER|c9|f1|t0|r1 |+3Through the MIS-COM you will be able to access critical information concerning your mission. It is imperitive that you read these files closely. Use the ARROW buttons to move through the databank. Click the RETURN button to load the listed file.|r1 |+3The EXIT button will return you to the Main Control. |e |c1|f2|t1COMBAT|c9|f1|t0|r1 |+3Upon moving your INTREPID into an occupied grid you will automatically be taken to your gun controls. The INTREPID is mounted with a high power semi-automatic mini cannon. This should prove quite effective against ground troops. Once in combat you have two choices. One, to eliminate all enemy soldiers and clear the grid. Doing this will return you to the Main Controls with the appropriate changes made in the gauges. Your second choice is to retreat. This is quite dangerous in that many of the enemy soldiers are able to take a last potshot at you as you escape. Retreating should only be done when completely neccessary. To retreat hit the RED button in the lower left.|r1 |+3Combat, as well as retreat, takes about 5-10 minutes. |e |+3 The INTREPID is Copyright (C) 1991, Peter Gage . ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. This game is FREELY DISTRIBUTABLE. If you enjoy the game please consider sending me $15 so I can make it through college. As an extra incentive I will register you and be sure you receive my next P.D. game, CATACOMB. That's not too bad of a deal. The code is also available for an additional $10 w/registration. It has plenty of notes, but I make no promises as to its readability. |+3 I am more than happy for this game to be placed on PD/SHAREWARE disks, but PLEASE contact me for permission first.
