Crypto-Mania is a game of cryptograms on disk.  Cryptograms are sentences
or phrases written in code (one letter substituted for another.) Your job
is to decipher the code and reveal the phrase.

The word cryptogram comes from the Latin word {crypta} which means hidden
and the Greek word {graphein} which means to write.

To start, type: CRYPTO, then selected a volume. Crypto-Mania will put
your first puzzle on the screen and your ready for hours of fun.

Note that only Volume_1 is distributed with the software. The others can be
purchased upon registration of Crypto-Mania.  Each volume has 250 puzzles.
Volume_1 is free with software registration.

Once a puzzle is on the board, simply move the pointer under the letter you
wish to change.  For instance, if you think the letter 'T' is really an 'A'
then move the pointer under any letter 'T' and strike an 'A'. The program
will find all the T's and place the letter A above them. If you decide that
an 'A' is not the letter you want after all, simply place the pointer back
under any letter 'T' and press your next choice. all the A's will be erased
and replaced with your next choice. Or you can press the space bar to erase
the letter completely.

When you have guessed all the letters correctly, you have solved the puzzle
and Crypto-Mania will play a little cheer to Congratulate you.  If you give
up and decide to have the computer give you the answer, just press F5 and
the computer will comply.  (But you will get a raspberry first.)

A special note for my friends with certain vision disorders. If you have
trouble with the first set of codes that the computer gives you, simply key
Alt-R and your puzzle will be re-enciphered for you with a new letter set.

Aids that can be toggled on and off during the game are a used letter
board, and a frequency chart. The frequency chart shows the letter usage
for the puzzle (not in the answer, but in the code).

F1-Help is available during the game.

       IBM-PC or Compatable
       MS-DOS 3.20 or higher
       640k RAM
       CGA color monitor or better
       Mouse support
       Harddrive is best, but not necessary
        unless you have 6 volumes or more.
