The Crossword Construction Kit, version 1.3 Copyright (C) 1993 Kijin Jung, All Rights Reserved Welcome to The Crossword Construction Kit, version 1.3! CCK allows you to create square, diagonally symmetrical crossword puzzles - the kind you see in your local newspaper. After constructing and filling in the grid, CCK gives you the option of saving the grid and the solutions as EPS files for a professional appearance, or as ASCII representations for a fast, convenient way to view your puzzles. Clues can be saved separately as text files, which you may format as you desire. Registering CCK will give you the ability to create from a small 9x9 grid puzzle up to a whopping 23x23 grid crossword puzzle (CCK shareware is limited to a 15x15 grid ONLY). Registering also eliminates the three second delay at the introduction screen. The two versions are otherwise identical. ________________________________________________________________ QUICK START Pressing F1 at most screens will invoke the context sensitive help engine. Start the Crossword Construction Kit by typing CCK at the DOS prompt. To examine the sample templates, choose "Load Template" and enter cck1 or cck2. To examine the sample game files, choose "Game Menu" from the Template Menu, choose "Load Game", and enter cck1 or cck2. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE GAME FILES FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION OF CCK, MAKE SURE TO UPDATE THEM USING THE CONVERT.EXE UTILITY. If you'd like to solve these games on paper, choose "Print to File" from the Game Menu, choose "Print Grid" and enter a file name (for example, cck1), which will create a file called CCK1.EPS. This EPS file can then be printed through an illustration program which imports EPS files or directly to a PostScript printer. To print the accompanying clues to a file, choose "Print Clues" from the print menu and enter a file name (for example, cck1), which will create a file called CCK1.TXT. This TXT file can then be formatted and printed as you wish. To quickly review the appearance of the sample files, choose "ASCII Draft", which will output the numbered grid, clues, and solution grid as ASCII representations (for example, cck1.asc). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you have any suggestions, bug reports, or comments, you can write me at the address below, or if you're on the net, feel free to e-mail me.
