As a person who has enjoyed doing crossword puzzles for quite some time, I decided to write and design my own puzzles a few years ago. I used a ruler, pencil, and a felt pen to design the grid pattern, and about a ton of crossword dictionaries and other reference sources to fill-in the 'spaces'. Calamus DTP now makes all those tools seem archaic, although it doesn't make writing them any easier! The puzzle in this archive was one of the most difficult for me to write. I designed the grid pattern using a minimum amount of unused spaces (the black area). I made a valid attempt to have as few 'strange' words as possible, but inevitably some crept in. Those who do the daily crossword in their local paper will find this particular puzzle not all that difficult; others may find it just impossible. Answers to the puzzle are included in the file ANSWERS.TXT. This is an ORIGINAL puzzle by me, and is not intended to be SOLD, although anyone may reprint the puzzle in any publication so long as credit is given to its creator. Many thanks to Calamus and Atari for making DTP inexpensive. ENJOY!!!!!!!! -------------------------------- Neil Roughley Surrey, British Columbia, Canada July 26, 1989
