Frustration! By David Becker Frustration runs only on the monochrome monitor. It is a two player word search game with a few twists. Each player, in turn, tries to create words from a random combination of letters spread over an 11 by 11 grid (that works out to 121 letters). Scoring is based on word length, the longer the word, the better your score. You must choose a word within a preset amount of time or you will score 0 for a blank. Each game lets you choose ten words of up to eleven characters each. The player with the highest total letter count wins the game! Game Levels -------------------- You may choose the level of play from the drop down menu. Level one is the default level and is the easiest for learning the game or if children are playing. You get 99 seconds to complete your word and words can be any length from 1 character to 11 characters. Level two is the normal play level and gives 50 seconds for each player to complete a word. Words must be a minimum of 3 characters in length. Level three is very difficult. This expert level gives only 25 seconds and requires that each word be at least 4 characters in length! Playing the game -------------------- Decide who is player one and who is player two. Game play begins as soon as you click the drop down menu. Player one goes first in game one. Game play alternates after this. The timer at the bottom of the screen will begin counting down immediatly. Place the arrow over the first letter of your word and click the left mouse button. The letter will be highlighted. Continue choosing letters until your word is complete. If you make a mistake you can press UNDO to clear the word. When you are happy with the chosen word then press the right mouse button to confirm. Your word will be entered on your scorecard and game play will pass to the next player. If you cannot find a word you can pass by clicking the right mouse button with NO highlighted letters within the grid. If BOTH players pass the game ends! Rules for selecting words -------------------------- As you select letters to create a word you must be aware of these basic rules: 1. Each letter square may only be clicked on once. If you try to use a highlighted letter twice your word will clear and you will have to enter it again. 2. You can only choose letter squares that touch one another either horizontally, vertically or diagonally, (up and down, left and right or corner to corner) You can change direction at any time, your word may begin going right to left, then go up, then finally end up going back down diagonally, as long as each letter square touches the next! 3. Maximum word length is 11 characters. If you run out of time you will score 0 for a blank word! 4. There is no turning back after you confirm your word with the right mouse button. MAKE SURE IT IS SPELLED CORRECTLY! 5. Words may be used only once per game. Singular and plural are counted as different words (example - CAR and CARS). 6. No personal names, brand names or names of places. In order for a word to be valid it must appear in a dictionary to be chosen at the start of the game. Removing incorrect words ------------------------- If after the end of a game a word choice is proven to be incorrect it can be removed by choosing the drop down menu. You will then be prompted to point at the offending word with the mouse. It will be crossed of the score card and the total score will be adjusted. You may remove as many words as you wish before the start of the next game. Game totals ------------------ You can view totals for the first twenty games by clicking this option from the drop down menu. Copyright 1991 David Becker GEnie mail to D.Becker8
