Maps and Legends 2 GETTING STARTED Load the Maps and Legends program as follows: 1. Turn on your computer and load the TOS operating system if you have it on disk. The program is designed to operate with TOS in ROM and RAM, but the extra memory available from having TOS in ROM will allow you to use the enhanced features such as Overlay and the Font Loader. If you do have TOS in RAM (on disk), delete all desk accessories except Font Loader (you may also want the Control Panel to set your palette. 2. If you are using a color monitor, you must set your preference for the medium or low resolution mode before you load the Maps and Legends program. You should only change this preference while you have your boot disk in your drive so that your desk accessories such as the Control Panel, ST Font Loader and Install Printer accessories for the screen resolution you choose are available while you are using the Maps and Legends program. NOTE: If you'd like to print your maps directly from the program with more accuracy than the Install Printer accessory will allow, there is a solution. The first issue of START Magazine contains a desk accessory written by Tom Hudson that load DEGAS printer drivers into the desktop instead of the default TOS printer driver. This will allow you to produce high-quality printouts with many different printers. 3. Insert the Maps and Legends Program disk into the disk drive. If you want to use the ST Font Loader, read the READ.ME file in the FONTACC folder for installation instruc- tions. 4. Open the disk drive directory by double clicking on the disk drive icon. 5. Open the program MAPS.PRG from the directory by double clicking on the icon or text representation of the disk file with that name. 6. After the Maps and Legends program has loaded, the name The Cartographer appears as the window title and the menu bar reads: Desk File Options Color Pattern You are now ready to use the Maps and Legends program.
