TIMEWORKS DESKTOP PUBLISHER ST - VERSION 1.1 Installation You cannot run the program from the master disks as supplied: you must install it onto other disks. Please read the installation guide in the manual before installing. You will need 4 blank formatted single-sided disks, or 3 blank formatted double-sided disks, or about 1 megabyte of space on a hard disk. Full details are in the user manual in the section entitled "Installing the PUBLISHER". Memory Requirements GEM requires all of the fonts to be in memory while printing. This means that the Desktop Publisher requires all of the memory in a 520 ST: you must not have any desktop accessories or memory-resident programs installed. Also, on a Mega ST 2, driving an Atari laser printer, all of the memory is required: there is no room for accessories. The program will use temporary files on disk while it is operating: do not change the disk in the drive until you are told to by the program. Temporary files are also required when printing bit-map graphics. If you have a 520ST with single-sided floppies, you may not be able to print more than one image file per page. If you get a disk full message while printing, you could try deleting the help text files from your overlay disk to make more space. Sample Documents and Clip Art The disk of sample documents and clip art is not copied by the install program. Floppy disk users should copy the disk, save the original, and use the copy. Hard disk users can copy the two folders, SAMPLES and ARTWORK, onto their hard disk simply by dragging the icons. All the artwork is in .IMG format, so the GEM Paint format should be used to import it into Desktop Publisher. NEW.DOC The file NEW.DOC is an empty text file. It is placed in the STORIES folder by the install program. If you import this into Desktop Publisher (using any import file format), you can then type in a multi-frame story.
