My Wonderful Sweet Precious Darling Guen, A modern definition of love-"When the happiness and well being of another person is greater than or equal to our own, then Love exists" To day the sun is shining, birds are building nests right outside the kitchen window and the young fruit trees are bearing fruit for the first time. It is a wonderful time. But it is even more wonderful darling because today I think I have realised the solution to all those things which were depressing me for the past couple of months. As you remember my last letters were filled with a lot of concerns about the future. I wasn't feeling very happy. And I was feeling even worse because my vacation to see you was coming up soon and all theser things were on my mind. I wondered if I could be in a good mood when I saw you after thinking about all these things. I was thinking that, after you read the letters, you would probably start looking for a man who had more money than I or a man from your own country with your same religion and views on things. Who knows? Maybe you already have. Yet today my mind is as clear as crystal and my heart is as light as a feather. Today I realise that there is a solution to almost all the things that were troubling me. It's like an answer to a prayer. And I would like to take a few moments to talk with you about it and get your thoughts on this ok? Guen Darling, it occurred to me that the ability to make a smooth transition to another country, to be an asset to your husband, and be able to provide benifits for your family back home in the Philippines, lies directly in the amount of education that you have. I had mentioned before that the normal situation with families in America these days is that both husband and wife work. And to be able to retain a position in above average society here, to put the kids into a good school, to obtain personal goals and to generally live without too much hardship, again, lies directly in the amount of education that a person has. With a good education a person is an assest to their family, society and to themselves. Without as good education, a person may find that it is harder, if not impossible to achieve the things that they dream of. Without having liverd in another country i can only assume that this is true in whatever country we live in, especially the United States. You know Guen, I had thought how nice it would be if i could assist you if you wanted to go to school. My original thoughts on this were that, if we were together here, I could help you go through school in America. The benefits to yourself and family would be wonderful. And then I would become depressed because i realised that, at present, with the two loans i have on the house, there wouldn't be enough for us to enjoy luxuries like that. It will still take a couple of years to pay off one of the house loans so that I would have a some left over for things like that. Yet it is still true. The answer to many of the thin gs I mentioned still lies in the level of education that you have. You know Darling, we all have dreams, goals and desires. And to acheive those things which will bring happiness in our lives we need the tools to make it happen. You may have a strong desire to come to America, as you mentioned in the questionnaire "For a better future", yet you will still need the tools to make it happen. Coming to America does not in itself gaurante a better future. This is a different society with it's own customs and direction. To become part of this society and to utilise it's benifits again lies in the person's level of education. I think this point is clear. Guen Darling, the two of us have a strong love for each other which has developed over the past year. Yet marriage is a much broader issue than even the love that we share. Marriage, which is based on true love, is still a complete combination of two people. There are no secrets in marriage. Marriage comdines two people completely; the good and the bad; their love, income, families, education, desires, religious beliefs and even more. We love each other Guen, yet we must think marraige through very well before a decision is made. Nevertheless, I still believe that a happy marriage is first founded on true love. With true love all those other things can be acheived. In fact true love can exist even without marriage. Certainly true love can exist between two people even if marriage must wait a while. Again, happy marriage is a lifelong commitment based on love and for which both persons should be well prepared. Marriage is based upon, and yet is a more complex thing, than love alone. Referring again to a definition of love at the beginning of this letter; "When the happiness and well being of another person is greater than or equal to our own, then Love exists." I will now propose a resolution which I would like you to consider. i must admit that my love for you is so strong that i am concerned about your future, your dreams and desires even more than i am concerned about our own marriage. i want you to be happy Guen. i would like to see you fulfill your dreams; even if it means fulfilling your dreams at future time, and yes, even if it means that you eventually choose another man. And I firmly believe that attaining a completed college education is the most important step in coming to America for the better future that you dream of. Of course you could always continue to write to man in America who may have more income and finances and who are able to support you without an education. Yet I think that procedure would be rather impractical. Even though I am not as yet able to support you here and put you through school in America, I am more than willing to assist your education in Philippines. In fact, at this time i believe that i may be able to completley fund your education while you are still there. Of course i have no idea if you even agree with these thoughts so maybe I am assuming too much. It is just that, as I see things now, I really believe that your education is the key to your future dreams. I make my offer to you without obligation, you may choose whatever education that you like at a college in your area. And I do not ask for anything in return. It is my free gift to you Darling, because I love you. i also understand that for the time that you are studying and at school you will not be able to assist your family. I am aware of this and am willing to assist in this area also. If you would like to do this i can only recommend that you pursue a degree that is useful in The United States. A degree in the Computer field is of course very handy. Yet i am sure that there are many other college degrees which are useful here in the U.S.. Find something that you would like to study first, be happy in whatever you choose, and i will do my best to see that you have the means to acheive this goal. If you have a good, solid and completed education Guen, you will be an asset to your future husband, your family, and to yourself. i beleive this approach is the KEY to the better future that you dream of here in the U.S.. I understand that you were probably not able to finnish school in the past most lIkely because your parents did not have enough to do this.Yet in our present situation i think it can be done.
