$centre|THE F-14 TOMCAT

$cancel|$margin[8]
The F-14 Tomcat is a multi-role combat interceptor
used on aircraft carriers (such as the USS Nimitz, USS
Saratoga, etc.) by the United States Navy. Inovative features
include swing-wings, twin vertical stabilizers, and use of the
long range air-to-air missile, the Aim-54 Phoenix.

The F-14 was the best all-round combat aircraft in the
early 1970s, able to track six targets at once with its
Sidewinders, Sparrows and Phoenixes. Its maximum speed at
low level is mach 1.2 and 2.34 at height. In the air-surface
role the Tomcat can carry up to 14,500lbs., and as well as
its missiles has an M-61A-1 multi-barrel cannon.

$centre|THE F-15 EAGLE

$cancel
The F-15 Eagle was originally designed to counter the
Soviet Mig-25, a high-altitude, supersonic interceptor with
long-range missiles and a powerful radar. Although the Mig-25
or "Foxbat" is faster, has a higher ceiling and has made many
world records, it is not designed for air-to air combat, and
thus does not have an internal gun. The F-15 is more
manoeverable and has better avionics, as well as the M-61A
20mm cannon.
The F-15 is manufactured by McDonnel Douglas who
also built its predecessor, the F-4 Phantom II. Its maximum
speed is mach 2.5 and as well as the M-61A it can also carry
Aim-9L Sidewinders and Aim-7F Sparrow air-to-air missiles.
In the ground attack role, the F-15 can carry up to 16000lbs.
of weapons.

$centre|THE MCDONNEL DOUGLAS F-4 PHANTOM II

$cancel
This ageing fighter, the McDonnel Douglas F-4 Phantom
II was one of the most outstanding combat aircraft during its
time. It is most famous for participating in the fighting
over Vietnam, where it repeatedly showed superiority over the
Soviet Mig 21. Although for the most part replaced by the F-
15, also built by McDonnel Douglas, the Phantom still plays an
active role in the U.S. National Guard, and in Europe.
The new Super Phantom, updated by United Technologies,
has even greater performance than before thanks to new engines.
The Phantom's maximum speed is mach 2.27 and carries up to 16000
lbs. of bombs, guns and stores, as well as a 20mm cannon on
some versions and Aim-7 and Aim-9 missiles.
