Profile for Casio VZ-1, VZ-10M The VZ1/10M synths are complex, and difficult at times, as you can see by looking at the size of the VZ1 manual. Bear with me on this one. This profile supports Normal, Operation Memory, and Multi- channel patches. A bank contains 64 Normal and 64 Operation Memory patches (the entire internal mem). This profile lacks Normal (single) patch editing , but I might add it sometime in the future. You can Transplant patch sections, however, which will allow you to come up with some new sounds in a crude way. You can edit Op mem and Multi Chan setups fully, with all their performance settings. Op Mem mode lets you set up 1 to 4 Normal patches in various split and layered combinations. Speaking of combinations, the COMBI mode of the VZ is really just for editing Operation Memories. To edit from the VZ panel, you had to copy an Op Mem patch to COMBI mode, then edit it, then "write" it back to Op Mem mode. From now on, you can forget COMBI mode forever! The Op Mem patch of this profile takes care of all that. Setup the VZ synth: 1. In menu 3-1 (menu 3, submenu 1), set MEM PROTECT INTERNAL to OFF if you want to send banks to the VZ. 2. In menu 3-3, set the Receive and Send Channels equal to each other. X-or's Sysex channel for this profile must match these. 3. In menu 3-4, set EXCLUSIVE to ON. 4. Set the VZ mode to PLAY (just hit the PLAY button). Unfortunately, the only way to store patches to the VZ is to send an entire bank. Sending a bank takes about 45 seconds, and getting one takes about 25 seconds. To get a bank from the VZ: Set menu 3-2 to SAVE, MIDI, VC+OP, and press YES on EXECUTE. To send a bank: Set menu 3-2 to LOAD, MIDI, VC+OP, and press YES on EXECUTE, then click on OK in X-or's dialog box. When finished getting or sending, hit the PLAY button. Multi Channel setups are useful for sequencing, etc. There are 8 areas, each with its own voice patch, midi recv channel, and many other performance parameters. Multi Chan setups are not saved in banks, only as single patches. ......Dave Grunberg 9/90
