New Power Supply!

The Mega-ST power supply can be overloaded by a *combination*
of the SST and other things (for instance, a Moniterm video board).
It just doesn't have enough capacity on the "5 volt line" to supply
everything; it gasps, and dies. Note, an SST alone (even with 8 megs)
usually does not require a replacement supply; I have run
NUMEROUS 8 Mbyte SST's across four Mega-ST's with no problem on
stock Mega ST supplies.

Still, there's always an exception or two; for instance,
I have had to repair two Mega supplies whose capacitors had
gradually gone bad and which had poor solder joints.

For those of you who have an SST and something else (hard disk,
video board, electric oven) connected inside your ST, there is a new,
stronger power supply available!

The Merlin Group (George Richardson, who designed the SST)
has an *EXCELLENT* power supply for the Mega. We here at Gadgets are
running one and it's neat! We recommend it if you need more power for
your Mega.

Just to be clear about it, this is a Merlin Group offer,
not a Gadgets offer; if you call Gadgets about it, we'll just have to
refer you to George! Contact him directly. We're putting this notice
on the release disk as a courtesy to George.

Here's the information on it, from the Merlin Group:

don't call outside normal Engineer's Hours.)

The Merlin Group now has available 45 watt power supplies to replace
the original Atari and Best replacement supplies, which are only 35 watt
units. The new supply gives a minimum of 2 amps more current in the
critical area where Megas can overload.

The electrical specifications of the supply are:

Input Voltage: 90-265 Volts AC, 57-63 Hz
			100-265 Volts AC, 47-63 Hz
			120-364 Volts DC (!!)

Input Current:	1.2 Amps at 90 Volts AC
0.5A Amps at 220 Volts AC

	Output Voltage & Current Ratings

	Maximum power output:	45 watts

	+5.0 volts @ 5 Amps, 7 Amps peak
	+12.0 volts @ 2 amps, 3 amps peak
	-12.0 volts @ 0.7 amps, 0.7 amps peak

What this boils down to is you can plug this supply into a wall
outlet about anywhere on Earth, without setting switches or jumpers.
It even runs off DC!

The power supply has a one year warranty. It also has UL, CSA, IEC,
FCC Part 15 Class B, and VDE approvals.

Since this supply does not precisely fit the Atari power supply
board chassis holes, we require that you send the complete Atari chassis
to us for assembly. IT DOES NOT MATTER TO US IF THE ATARI SUPPLY IS WORKING
OR NOT, since the metal chassis, switches, power IEC connector and fan are
all that we use. We can return your old Atari power board if you
specifically request it, otherwise, we just discard it or shoot it up with
a large caliber rifle, for stress relief.

We wire the fan up to the -12 volt supply, which the Atari doesn't
even want, leaving the +12 supply unaffected by any noise, and able to
deliver the maximum output for things like internal hard drives or Moniterm
video cards, that use it for additional power input. (Truth!)

We're offering this supply for a flat $100 USA Dollars, installation
and shipping included. Should the supply fail within the one year warranty,
we will exchange the board free of charge.

Contact us at the Merlin Group (NOT GADGETS!) for ordering or
further information, within normal business hours.
