M1 Profile - 3/6/90 version: This Profile works with the 100/100 memory allocation only - the large sequence (50/50) allocation is not supported. This version includes complete Combi editing. Programs are shown by name if there is an "Internal Bank" present. X-or does not have a "Card Bank" (yet?!), so Card Program names won't be correct. At this time, all editing sends complete patches, as opposed to param changes. The Combi Type parameter isn't fully implemented - if it were, it would show all the changes that the M1 automatically does when you switch Combi Types, including limiting the available parameters. Since every possible M1 Combination can be easily done with a Multi type patch, I can see no reason to use the other types. If you encounter a patch which is not a Multi patch, change the type to Multi in X-oR - this gives you the exact same Combination, but now you can edit everything. Only one effect can be shown at a time - use the "edit" box to select one. The effect values aren't set to their proper values when the effect type is changed - I'll be fixing this ASAP. There is a basic conceptual problem with having an edit buffer for Drum Kits or Globals, since no real edit buffer exists in the M-1. Therefore, all Drum and Global editing must be stored back into the "Internal Bank" (with Bank Update on) before the change is sent to the Synth. (See the V1.1 manual for more on Bank Update). As far as cards go - on the 2nd page of the Global Patch Edit is an internal/card switch which affects Send Bank, Get Bank, and Bank Update - i.e. if set to Card, the "Internal Bank" is really the "Card Bank," and all bulk dumps will go to and from the card (this includes Drum Kit and Global settings) PCM and Drum cards are not supported completely, although perhaps "well enough" to get by. The parameters pointing to PCM and Drum Card sounds will not show the sound names, instead you will see "card 1, card 2," etc. We're working on a technique to get around this. I recently had a chance to test the M1 Profile with an M1R-EX synth at the NAMM show, and I found some of the errors you have no doubt noticed in the earlier Profiles. For some reason, the M1's Program or Combination memory may become scrambled if you send a bank at full speed (at least this is true with the one I was using) Therefore, I increased the Tx Slowdown Amount in the Profile for each Data Type. This results in a slower, but sure-er bulk dump. Requests were also broken, and have been fixed. Chances are, your M-1 won't be as slow as the M1R-EX, so you could go into E-oR and decrease the Tx Slowdown Amt. for all 4 Data Types. Chronology: M1MAIN3 (1/6/90) - attempted fix, M1MAIN4 (1/20/90) - fixed version of M1MAIN3 M1 (1/26/90) - added Drums and Global and Combi editing, etc. M1 (2/5/90) - Corrected Global Patch receive bug. M1 (3/6/90) - Drum Card names & parm range now goes to "card 50". Bob M.
