~EMU README FILE FOR 2.0 (012297) EMU 2.0 Has been released! It is still not 100% complete, but enough so you all can enjoy new features and play with an evolving emulator. All known problems with the emulator are documented in the "Known Bugs and Incomplete Implementations" section below. Before emailing to Neil or to either the emu or emulator mailing lists, check the section below to make sure it has not been mentioned. This release is intended as an almost full-scale release. There are features missing, bugs in current features, but overall it's a drastic improvement over 1.9. I fully anticipate adding the missing features and fixing the problems in the existing software. I figured that you'd all rather play EMU with the new features even with the problems. I don't need to know about problems that I already know about, so any email sent to me about something that's covered in the release notes will be ignored. ;-) Check the list carefully! Email all other problems/bugs to emu@synthcom.com or neil@synthcom.com. System requirements =================== * 486/66 Or better CPU with PCI or VLB based video card. 386 And lower CPUs are NOT SUPPORTED. * Sound Blaster 16 (or compatible) optional * Windows 95 or NT is *NOT* supported by EMU! What's New in Emu 2.0 ===================== * New Keyboard Handler. * Pause implemented. * Print Screen will cause a screen dump, you specify the file it gets saved to (PCX). * Sound support is present. * High score saving added. * User game configuration is added. Users can now define their own set of command keys, screen resolution, and dip switches, among other things. * Faster vector and CPU emulation. * Joystick calibration added. * Speed throttling algorithm has been rewritten. * Images are correctly clipped in all games. * Readme and FAQ file readers are now built in to EMU. * VESA 2.0 support added. * Black Widow is now playable. * Gravitar fuel counter now counts down correctly. * Asteroids Deluxe is now the correct color. * Gravitar is now the correct size (larger than 1.9). Known Bugs and Incomplete Implementations ========================================= * Asteroids and Lunar Lander do not have sound support. * Space Invaders and Space Invaders II do not have sound support. * Asteroids Deluxe and Battle Zone have partial sound support. * SoundBlaster is the only supported sound card. * Joystick and mouse support is not present. * Space Invaders is playable, however the score doesn't count and the fleet stops firing at you after a while. * Space Invaders Part II has this known bug: when you clear the fleet of aliens, there is no predicting what EMU will do next. * Space Invaders Part II is fairly broken, and marginally playable. The same holds true for Space Invaders as well. * High score is saved only in Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe. * Red Baron is unplayable, due to lack of joystick support. * No way to insert coins into Battlezone (leave it in free play mode) * No way to adjust volume, bass, treble, etc... with sound * Some of the dip switches don't do anything. I need to debug this. Have fun with EMU 2.0! Mail feedback to the emu list or to neil@synthcom.com, and do NOT mention bugs already present in this list! Thank you!
