Multi-processor arcade emulator (demo v2), (C) Dave Spicer 1995/96 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Not a real title, just a stop gap while I think of a good one. Actually, other working titles exist: 'Megacade' & 'A Day at the Arcades'. Now you can see why I stick to the boring one. A quick description: This is a cut-down version of an arcade game emulator capable of running a variety of classic games. For this demonstration, support is provided for Galaxians, Frogger, Amidar (US and Japanese). I'm not going to waffle on about how good this is, etc, etc. Try it for yourself. If you like it: great! If you don't: well you know how to use del *.* don't you? ;-) Full instructions for getting the emulator running are given in the file 'arcade.doc'. Here are a selection of comments from my testers: Lee Taylor: "Well it's f*****g amazing!!!!!!!!!" (short and to the point!) Jim Hernandez: "You won't find better translations then this on the PC, many other emulators use partial emultion for the program and then WAV files for sound. Not on Dave Spicer's emulator! You get full emulation of the game code and exact emulation of the sound as well!" James 'frustrated ad exec' Rowan: "It's so authentic I have to keep checking it's not still the 1980's" "A veritable feast of arcade nostalgia for your personal computer !" "I was so amazed a spent several weeks in a monestary recovering from the shock." "It's so good I'm worried it might affect the re-sale value of my arcade machines ???" "It's so authentic I keep stuffing quarters into my PC!" or for English readers.. "It's so authentic I keep stuffing old 10p's into my PC!" and one final comment from a non-tester: "Dave's emulator both cleaned AND straightened my teeth!" The Angry Red Herring -------- Important note: For copyright reasons, I cannot distribute the rom code for any of the arcade games supported by the emulator. This means the current release is only usable by collectors who own the original machines and are able to read the ROMs into their PC. At some point in the future, I hope to produce a commercial version containing some licensed titles. Until then, I'd point non-collectors towards William's Digital Arcade by Digital Eclipse. It contains enough decent emulations to keep most people happy for a while. ------------------------------------- Legal stuff: You may use* this emulator free of charge for an unlimited period. It is not shareware, rip-offware or crippleware - the game support included is just as complete here as in my own version. * 'use' is defined as playing games using the emulator and nothing else. Users should not disassemble or reassemble the program code or produce derivative works based on any part of the emulator. Anyone using this program does so at their own risk. The author does not accept any liability for loss or damage arising from its use. Permission is granted to upload the original zip file to any ftp or web site where it may be publicly acccessed, just so long as the zip is UNALTERED. In particular, NO ROM IMAGES FROM THE SUPPORTED GAMES SHOULD BE INCLUDED WITH THE EMULATOR. Doing so annoys both the coin-op companies and me. All other forms of distribution are strictly prohibited. This restriction includes, but is not limited to, distribution in Internet compilation disks/ cds, shareware libraries, magazine cover disks/cds and any other media.
