Quick instructions for The Star Commander The Commander requires a 80286 CPU or better, MS-DOS 3.20 or above and about 500 KBytes of free conventional memory. It is unlikely that you will succeed in accessing an external Commodore drive when using the Commander under multi- tasking systems like OS/2, Linux, Windows, Windows '95 or Windows NT and you might have to remove memory managers, device drivers and other resident programs, as well, unless you use the XP1541 parallel cable. If you have a Pentium or newer 486 motherboard then make sure you switch your LPT port to SPP in the BIOS setup. Since you can only use the XP1541 parallel cable on a bidirectional LPT port, you'll have to buy another LPT port card, use it in SPP mode and switch the integrated LPT port to EPP or ECP mode. Different PC's run with a different speed, therefore you have slow them down at a different factor to make them run roughly at the speed of the external Commodore drive. The default delay value is 48 for 286, 386 and 486 machines and 80 for Pentiums. However, if you experience problems while accessing your Commodore drive then try changing this value in the 'Advanced options...' menu. If you have problems, please, refer to the documentation (the file SC.DOC) and the Frequently Asked Questions (the file FAQ.TXT) for further information before contacting me. Test results, bug reports, wishes for enhancements in future versions are welcome. When sending a detailed bug report, please, indicate the version of the Commander you use, the configuration of your PC (CPU type and speed) and the configuration of the Commander when the bug occured. If the bug occured only with a certain file, you can send it to me uuencoded, as well. Without these I may not be able to help you. The Commander is giftware. If you're using it regularly and find it useful then, please, register it. Read the file REGISTER.TXT for more details. Joe Forster/STA sta@ludens.elte.hu
