character classes:
there are four classes that make
up the available professions in
ancients.  a character with a
good balance of magic and 
fighting ability works best.

1. warriors spend their lives
training for battle and can use
any weapon or wear any armor.
warriors cannot cast magical
spells - however, they can use
some magical items.

2. rogues are characters who
rely on cunning and stealth as
opposed to brute force.  a
rogue is slightly harder to hit
in combat and is better able to
defend himself.

3. priests have the power of
the gods and can cast many
spells.  healing the injured
is their livelihood. many
priests are very good warriors -
however, they may not use edged
weapons as they prefer to 
bludgeon their enemies to death.

4. mages are intellects who
spend their life studying 
mysterious magical lore.  they
are very poor warriors as they
rely on magic and intellect to
burn, freeze, fizzle, disint-
egrate, and dismember their
enemies.
